My Cobalts Clutch is Dead? kinda long read sorry :)
Hey guys! New here and pretty unknowledgable when it comes to cars.
I have a 05 Cobalt sedan base model with manual transmission.
19 months old 40k. warranty is over and im leasing it
heres my prob. my wife and I drive this car around with our kids. we dont beet it up.
We also learned how to drive stick w this car and did pretty well.
asked for a 30k service. the bastards didnt even change our oil. it was at 21% and they said ehhh.... its good till it gets to 20% lol. my wife dealt with them I didnt.
got home noticed the cars trans had to be at a higher gear when driving thru town. no griding just a little higher rpms.
didnt think it was very serious at first, happened a few times, dismissed it.
4 days later driving 2 hours away i noticed when i was gonig 55-60 on the freeway that when i accelerated it would rev higher than i thought normal. but no higher than 4k. I would hit a hill w cruise on at 60. when i get to the top the rpm's wen t from 3.5k to 4.5k. and the cruise shut off. happened about 4 times all on hills. while i was in 5th the trans up shift dummy light occasionally turned on. Liek i was driving 3rd or 4th at 55mph.
About 40 minutes later freaking out inside, trying to stay calm for my wife lol I notice i gotta stay at like 5k? at the highest to stay in the 55-60mph range. 2 minutes later, I smelled machinery-metal type smell
1 minute later my car was loosing power and i slowed down.
the transmission works kind of. you gotta baby it to go 2 mph, and it does reverse. but all at higher than normal rpms. I NEVER WENT INTO THE RED RPM's. or atleast for no more than a half a second.
the dealership is looking at it now. They are saying that it seems like i burnt out the clutch and its user error and theres no powertrain coverage. they said i ride the clutch to much. which i dont know if i do or dont. nobody has ever told me that my driving seemed bad like that.
is there anything i can do? is this sound normal or consistent with this problem? like i said guys im completely unknowledgeable to cars and service.
thanks for your help guys and ill answer anything you guys need.

clutch is a wear and tear item, and your gonna have trouble getting it replaced under warranty unless there is a defect in the part itself causing it to fail prematurely.
Considering you both learn to drive stick on this car....I hate to say it, but it looks like this is the price of learning.
*puts his flame jacket on for this one*
No offence to the ladies....and im not saying its all of you, but women are KNOWN for riding clutches to much
*runs away really really fast*
