Parking brake broke(manual)

Yeh I just post a thread couple days ago about a few minor issues with my SS/SC and today this happens. I drive home for lunch, park in the driveway, pull up on the brake and nothing...goes right back down. I look at it and the button looks a little off so I pull on it and it comes out. Looks like the spring came loose. Now I absoluelty have to put it in gear to park now. Good thing this happened while I was in it and not last night. I usually put my car in first when it sits in my driveway, but last night I didn't. Got lucky there. Called up the dealership and have an appointment tomorrow. Gotta drop it off @730 and hope they have the parts there to fix it. Just my luck I get nit picky about some minor things and something major has to break.

I usually do put it in gear just last night was one of those times it slipped my mind. I'm pretty good about it most of the time.

At least you are a lot luckier than this guy

After seeing that, I always remember to leave it in gear. And sorry to the guy, but the way he told the story and then the pics made me LOL for several minutes straight. I hope he got it fixed and everything.

Well I just got back from the dealership. They had to order a new parking brake lever. The internal mechanism failed.

When I had my car at the dealership for an unrelated problem, the techs ended up breaking the parking break(don't ask me how) and they had to replace it. I think that the break isn't a very quality part on these cars and is prone to fail, like many other things on the car.

They worry me too and now I'm the author of one...

another thing I'm lucky for is that my neighbors car was parked on the street next to my drieway that night and my wheels were slightly turned so if it had failed the night before I would have had two banged up cars my, SS and a brand new Jetta. The more I think about the luckier I realize I am.

Well my cobalt is finally at the dealership getting fixed. They said a week until the part came in. I called the dealership two weeks later(gave an extra week...snowstorms/holiday). Come to find out the parts department never special ordered the parking brake. Service guy made sure is was ordered when he called me back to tell me everything. Came in yesterday! Service department FTW! Parts department FTL! Dropped my car off at 730...it is now 1250...damn I want my car back!
