it all started with a leak
it all started with a leak
So I woke up this morning and to my suprise it rained last night. Well when I got inside my shifter boot was covered in wet water spots. when I looked up I had water drops on my sun roof switch. At first I thought I left the sun roof open but it was closed all the way and the headliner where the rearview mirror is was all wet. So I made an appointment to go to the dealership to have warranty work done on it and guess what happends to me on the way there. Im sitting at the light waiting on it to turn green (on a bridge) well im 2nd in line and a 06 ford mustang gt is in front of me. while the light is still red I notice that he is starting to roll backwards. I start honking and nothing so I start honking ALOT. nothing. He hits the front of my balt at about 3 mph. Then the dude just sits there with his car still on mine. I honk and start yelling at him to pull forward. Then (this is the best part) he sticks his head out the window and yells "WHAT" like nothing happend. I yelled back "YOU JUST HIT ME" he replied "I DID???" well I follow him and we pull over and the back of his car is fine. The front of my balt has a little tiny dent in it. but still the thought of my balt being hit is a sickening feeling. Mine was minor and I felt like ****, I cant believe how some of you other guys feel who have had yours totaled.
I have but nothing as bad as what you have. I took my car in yesterday because it was still leaking after I had brought it in earlier in the week. One of the techs adjusted my sunroof right in front of me and I watched him to see what he was doing. It turns out that some how the water was finding its way passed the drains and was following the lines to the sunroof motor which is right were the switch is. He told me that if the tweeking doesn't work that he will order me a whole new sunroof. If you look on the next couple of pages of threads you will find one that involves sunroof leaks. Some guy posted a service bulliten from GM there telling you how to properly adjust the sunroof.
No the headliner is fine. It was just a little damp. I drove the car around a little today and it was dry but it wasn't raining hear so I don't quite know if it is completely fixed. I don't know if I put this in my first post or not but the tech also put some sealant around the area where he thought it was leaking. I don't know if you know this but it is actually very easy for you to get behind your headliner. All you have to do is pull out the molding which is a soft rubber trim piece off the front part of the sunroof which would be the side by the switch. It should just pull out. That will allow you to pull down the headliner a little bit so that you can see in there. It sounded like you have a big leak so I don't know if your drains for the sunroof are plugged or if it is just something weird like my situation. I dought that your sunroof drains are plugged cause our cars are fairly new. Good luck finding out what is wrong.
haha, I've pissed a few people off before letting it roll back and fowards. Most of the time I do it to rattle those who ride my ass to stay back when I am at a light. Serves them right for giving me only a pubic hair to breath between bumpers on a hill.
I dont know if this applies to you, but I had issues with wind noise from the sunroof on the highway... I never thought of it at all, I only noticed it once in a blue moon (I like cranking music on the highway), but when it got cold out my sunroof either wouldnt open past vent or it would open slow as hell. It was from the rubber and plastics contracting due to the cold.
I took it into the dealer and asked him about it and the guy I always deal with said that he had some cobalts sunroofs not opening before and it was usually due to the frame, and he said if I was getting wind noise and it was jamming I was lucky it hadn't leaked yet.
They ordered a new sunroof frame and replaced it 4 days later with no problems...... sunroof operates smoothly (even in -15C cold) and ZERO wind noise on the highway either.
