GM Upgraded Aftercooler

Today I install the dual pass upgrade with second surge tank and 15psi cap. Well the instructions BLOW when in comes to the part were the 1\4 hose off the new surge. I dose not say were I connect this hose to. In the diagram it seems to connect to the manfold. Did I miss something? I hope they don't want us drill and tap the intake manifold.

I don't even know what you guys are talking about! I have the dual pass mod and I don't have any extra bleeder tubes or whatever and my system is sealed tight!

DWK5150, that makes a lot of sense. You wouldn't happen to know the thread size of the bleeder hole??

eastcostz, whats up!. I just did this myself, after some trial and error, I got it. First, the bleed fitting, (must be standard pipe thread), screws into the top of the aftercooler. On the passenger side of the aftercooler on top, under the black cover near the hood latch, you will see the plug. Be sure to put the .040 orifice in that line. You can place it on the tank side, if you wish. Second, you must switch the hoses for the pump! The picture shows the pump going to the aftercooler, you NEED to do this. The whole set-up works on the pump suppling volume and pressure to the aftercooler, this will spit a small stream of coolant into the surge tank, therefore purging out air. Then the coolant flows to the cores, in the middle fitting, and out the two end fittings, back to the pump. If you do not reverse the stock flow, you will suck air into the system, Trust me, been there, done that!

Depends on how lazy you are.
Cobra HE = cheap, but a lot of work
CA HE = EXPENCIVE AS ****, but easy to install

If you decide to go with a cobra HE, I made a how-to on installing one

Had one in my junk draw, just got lucky. I used a 90 deg fitting because I had the aftercooler out already,(slight runnin with an animal). With the cooler in place you need a straight fitting as pictured in the instuctions.

Most of the stuff you just need to piece together.

Eastcoastz, can you make a how-to on this? There are a lot of questions, and people are having a hard time understanding it all it seems. If not, I'll make one when I do it here in a couple weeks.

I can' believe GM released these instructions to the public.
2 THINGS THAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW BEFORE PERFORMING THIS UPGRAGE:
1. Every coolant line for the aftercooler system will be re-routed.
2. The 1\4 line off the new surge tank is routed to the heat exchanger bleeder screw hole where you need an metal fitting that screws into the hole and has a barbed extention to hook the 1\4 line from the surge tank to. DONT forget to insert a .040 orifice into the 1\4 hose as show in the instructions.

Sounds like someone got frustrated with this project, and I don't balme you either. I've read the instructions and they do suck compared the the stage kit installs and the build books.

So what do you do with the .040 orfice? Just shove it in the hose and put the hose over the 1/4" barb fitting? What does the .040 orfice actually do?

I think the 1\4 would have a back flow of coolant so the orifice reduces this.

So the orfice would just sit in the hose and stay there? Or does it have to be atached somehow?

Just sits in the hose. This modd must really help when running a 2.6 pulley and Siemen injectors. Went for a long drive today and when I got back I popped the hood to check for leaks ect.. and the blower was barely warm to touch. I would recommend this mod to anyone running smaller pulleys.

I was looking the motor over, yesterday after getting home the mall, and after about a minute, I noticed I was using the blower as a place to put my hand! Didn't even notice it, it was just a little warm thats it!

I did put a nitrous jet in the barb to 1/8 npt fitting. I used some jb weld to hold it in there.
