I know this has been brought up a couple of times, but I feel that I have tried everything. I replaced the air filter with the K&N E-1009, disconnected the battery, left the bottom of the air box off, put it all back together, connected battery, fired it up, and the damn check engine light is on......took it for a spin, and the light remains on. I took everything apart, made sure all connectors were on good, notched the K&N, replaced the bottom of the air box, made sure everything was back to normal, well, everything but the filter, and light is still on......will it eventually go off, or should I just replace the filter back to stock????? any help would be great.

The light comes on IMMEDIATELY after you disconnenct the battery? Or after it has been running for 10 minutes, or what?

If it's coming on immediately, something else may be wrong. The codes ppl normally see as a result of filter changes generally take a little while to set, they shouldn't pop up immediately after you key on after you've pulled battery.

I might try putting your stock one back in and seeing if it goes away. If it does, that's one thing, but if it still comes right back, then something else might be up.

The light comes on immediately. I will put the old filter back in and see if the problem still persists. I also do not have access to a scanner. I will let you know the result of putting the old filter back in.

Pulling the battery just resets the computer's memory. It will clear the code completely, but it will come back if the fault or reason it was there in the first place still exists. If you've fixed the error, pulling the battery is just as good as using a scanner/tool to clear it, both reset the memory.

Obviously as zinner said, the best thing to do would be to find out what exact code is setting the light. But if it comes on IMMEDIATELY after you key up, it's probably not an air-flow related issue. They generally take at least a few minutes, sometimes hours of runtime to set. If a fault pops up within a second, it's more likely an electrical fault. Something unplugged or shorted or something like that.

wow that sucks. I am waiting till the CAI kit from injen, K&N or AEM comes out first. Filter swaps do nothing for me.

True for sure, but again, that's something that wouldn't pop up right away. That diagnostic takes time to set. If you pull the battery, and key on, the light would not come on immediately even if you had no gas cap on period.

If his fault is immediate as he says, it must be something else.

So, I did nothing to the car, and the damn CEL is now off.....don't really understand, but the cars sounded so much better with the bottom of the air box off. I will take the bottom of the air box back off in a couple of days, and see if the CEL come backs on. Thanks for everyone's assistance.

Ok so say you get you computer, not reprogrammed cuz it isnt possible yet, but just reset so it clears the codes and whatnot and the light stays off for a certain period of time but then comes back on and its the same problem....How can it be fixed so it stops coming back on 3 weeks down the road or whatever...or will you have to wait and the only solution is to have it reprogrammed?

I just got my car back and it was the O2 sensor that was gone....They had too order a new sensor and they are putting the K&N back on Tuesday....hope this helps...Colin
