Best 2.4 Intake?

Hey guys.

Looking to get an intake come spring, and I wanted to know what you all thought was the best one. I had an AEM short ram on my old Accord and loved it. I have a generic CAI on my Monte, but didn't want to go cheap-o on the Cobalt. I'm interested in overall quality, sound, power, etc. So, let's hear it!

GMPP

Injen

AEM

K&N

etc.

Isn't the red Cobalt LS that was shown on Redline TV the same one that Whitfield has turned into one of the fastest FWD cars now featured in HCI (Feb 2007 issue)?

Theres two things I dislike about the GMPP intake. First is the intake element. Its a crappy paper filter element, they could have done better. Secondly is the fact its only a short ram.

Not intending to argue with you -- but what constitutes a long ram Vs a short ram? The GMPP is long IMO.

Theres really no such thing as long ram. Mainly because its called a Cold Air Intake. True both can be called cold air intakes, but the short ram like the GMPP takes air from the engine bay still. A cold air intake like Injen or AEM the filter sits in the fender well and sucks air from behind the headlight. Thats the difference, where the air is coming from.

i would wait personally. better intakes will come once tuning is available as you will see intakes with larger maf housings which gets rid of alot of restriction. Just to give you an idea of how much of a difference it can make-

on the 4.0 a k&n or aem brute force will only show about 10rwhp, but a c&l or Tunable Inductions intake (both having much larger maf housings) with the required tune (without a tune the car would run lean as **** because the maf still reads the air flow for a smaller tube) shows close to 25rwhp gain. my opinion- wait for tuning and see which one puts down the best with a tune. i'd do exhaust stuff until then.

The GMPP is supposed to seal against the hood seal and, therefore, draw air from the stock inlet in the fender well (which is a cold air source outside the engine compartment). I think it actually seals poorly unless you cut out the hood blanket and build a gasket on the hood like I did (see the "how to" link in my sig).

Mine is definitely cold air because it breathes in outside air from the scoop. It's fully sealed to the hood to avoid any air from the engine compartment getting in.

I do agree that the GMPP probably qualifies as a "short ram" intake.

Im reppin' the injen intake.

I didn't notice any difference with speed or mpg increases. But it made it sound like I have an exhaust system. And the ecotec screams!!! I love it and looks great under the hood.

once again, if you are looking for the best power gains...wait a month or two and see if someone is able to tune the ecu. Once tuning is available you are gonna want an intake with a larger mafs housing and maybe a larger throttle body...none of the intakes that are out right now have a larger mafs housing (or they would require tuning) and if you are getting 6-7whp from the intakes now i could garuntee a decent amount more with a better intake suited for being tuned, plus a tune...maybe even like 15whp.

I have the gmpp short ram and i really like it. Problem with the injen is that its oiled and can cause your cel to come on. Didnt want to have that problem, so went with GM. I recommend it
