For those of you guys who do not have the Continental donuts on your cars... you are so lucky!
These tires suck balls! I have to launch my base coupe like an old 5Liter Mustang because they break free so easy. Even on the 1-2 shift, they break free when you come off the clutch hard!! It's so bad, that I put BFG white lettered T/A's on the thing until I can get the 18's mounted.

other than the tires, i love my Cobalt.

This is so true. I had the same problem w/ my base cobalt 5 spd. after i put my rims on it very rearly squeeks going into second. but on the launch it now sort of hops a bit. Do you know any better way to launch with out hopping the front tires at all? i usually have it at 2500 and drop the clutch but the tires hop now

Ever drive a Mustang 5-Liter Coupe? To get off the line you kinda had to get it rolling a little and then flatfoot the accelerator. Otherwise you just burn the tires off the rims. It took a long time for me to learn that. In alot of ways, the Cobalt is like that. These tires really do suck. They don't corner well, they don't launch well... they are good in the rain, though.

i've found them to be absolutely terrible in the rain. i went through a turn and just kept going foward, that was a bit of a scare. it's entirely too easy to spin the tires in dry weather as well.

ya those tires are awful in the rain too. I would be spinning the tires up to 3rd gear and a few times even 4th gear and that is shifting at like 3-4 K but still. Thats how i drive lol now since i got my new tires they are a lot better overall with control

you guys must beat on your tires, i once tried an ebrake slide in rain, and the damn thing stuck like flies on shit

If you buy directional tires you'll get better traction.

When did you pull the e-brake? Because I've done what you're talking about and its extremely easy if you do it correctly. If you're taking a right hand turn, turn the car to the left a little, then hard to the right, pull the ebrake, point tires into the skid, release ebrake, then point your tires away.

I got those installed on my winter car, my cavailer z24. Very good tire. Great in the snow too.

the continental 15" do suck, but i dont want to throw any money on new tires/rims.
they seem ok though for normal street use. not great for turns....

Post a pic with the white letter tires! I find those only work on muscle car--just curious what they look like ona Cobalt.

You do know that a front wheel drive car will spin the tires easier then a RWD don't you?
I am wondering if this is the problem.

PS- I had an 86 Mustang once. Easy to launch and got 2.1 sec 60 ft times. Fun car but couldn't handle or brake.

yea, cause the weight of the engine keeps the wheels like a spatula on pancakes.

i kinda wish gm made the cobalt rear wheel drive. that way it could sorta fit with the whole domestic scene better. of course cost would be higher, ah well...
