I'm not sure, but I kind of think the rotors wear out just like the break pads on this car. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

I know Mini does that on the Cooper and Cooper S
So does Land Rover

A LOT of people have been having problems with warped/groved rotors on these cars...some have been covered by warrenty, some have not. Check w/ your dealer.

I know that if you do a search about this there are numerous people that have had problems with their rotors. Most people were going to the dealerships to get it fixed and all they were doing were cutting the rotors. The warping is just going to happen again. I am in the same boat you are. I only have 7k on my car and my rotors are uneven and pulsate under heavy braking. I am currently shopping around for some cross drilled rotors.

mine did it, the dealer re-cut them and now it's doing it again. i have a few other small issues that i'd like to take the car in for. so far the list is...

-brake vibration.
-driver side window makes a squeek going down.
-tire rotation (this one is something i am just going to pay for, i've heard lots of people complain about the oem pierellis wearing out, so i'm going to get them rotated every so often so i can make the dealer replace them if they do wear out)

This is a common problem with some chevys. I've seen it mainly on the malibu and the cobalt. The rotors just warp. I don't know why, They don't know why, it just happens. My Best guess is that it just can't get rid of brake heat fast enough. My suggestion would be to upgrade your rotors and pads

I noticed mine were seriously groovin after only 3000mi. I'm going to let it go awhile longer to see what happens. BILLBT did you send out your calipers to chrome? or did you just replace them with chrome calipers? they look bad ass.

looks like he polished his rotors, if you break hard and get your rotors hot there is a chance of warping your rotors, and the rotors do seem to be a little thin, resurfacing may help some of you if they are in spec or you could just a be little easier on your brakes

I Polished them!
Grinded them down with a Die Grinder, Then hand sanded them smooth & Polished them! Then Clearcoated them with HT Micro Clear!

My rotors are grooved but they aren't warped and they still stop fine. They just look like hell. I am going to get them looked at next week

I've got 22K km on mine and the front are groved. Went to the dealer today to ask about it and they booked me for next Saturday to take a look. The service rep. tried to give me some song and dance about the car sitting at the dealership to long before I bought the car and that if the rotors had rusted that that could hve led to them groving quickly. (So I thinks to me self...WTF) What do you guys think about that synopsis?

I was getting horrible vibrations in the rear after 20,000 km. The deal machined the rears under warranty but I can still feel it. GM has had horrible brakes for ever.

I have 13K on my car. Mine are not warped but they are about gone. The key is proper brake in and beding of the pads to prevent the problem.

Im going to upgrade soon.

Almost 33k miles on mine, grooved, had them cut, then they grooved and warped. GM drilled and slotted rotors are in my near future. Mentioned how crappy the stock rotors are to my dealer and he said I ride my breaks too much. Hmm, got 99k miles on my work van right now with the original factory pads, still stops great for a 5k pound van...

most dealerships seem to be informed that the pads are what are causing the problem with the rotars, mine grooved once and have just grooved again. new rotars that GM suppositvly are calling better, are what they are installing on my car today

The GM rotors will rust because they are not cated like they are supposed to be. Thaey are however better and won't warp like the stock ones. There is a thread in the drivetrain section about this. I think there might even be a sticky.

Vibrations are usualy cause by the build up of dust in and on the pad and rotors. A simple cleaning with some break cleaner has worked before for me on my other cars and my bike. My cobalt with 14K is just starting to get a hint of wheel shake under braking. Im gonna spray them down with some break cleaner and im sure it will fix the problem.
