Update to my broken axle story...

Well just got the call from service tech and the cause of problem was snapped driver side axle, caused but not proven to be from driving hard. So without proof they warrantied it . This makes up for all the times they've screwed me i guess. And to top it off they are overnighting the axles so I can have a car tomorrow. I'm so happy I'm going to take the day off work tomorrow just to celebrate a working car, and learn from my mistakes. Everyone should feather their ss s/c off the line if they like their axles. PEACE!

That's great to hear. Looks like you're going to have to invest in Level 2 axles at some point!!!

FTW! That's why I have yet to break into the 13's. I baby it and have shitty 60' times. But 106mph traps! Woohoo!

I have broken 2 axles.............learned the hard way.

The level 2 axles suck! it's the wheel hop that breaks them. You need to eliminate the wheel hop or else you will have a cracked transmission. The axles were just designed to break before the transmission case. You need to get solid motor and tranny mounts, not $800 axles.

At what point do most people start breaking axles? Stage II and all GMP upgrades enough to do this? I'm talking about dual pass mod also and real good gripping tires...

If you do race axles in the future, do the Quaife and/ or clutch at the same time. If you plan on doing either of those, it will save you a bunch of labour getting it all done at once.

i have a heart attack every time my Cobalt wheel hops... how hard, realistically, do you have to be beating on these things to break the axles or transmissions?
I mean, yeah, this sounds dumb, but it's the one thing about the car that scares especially this time of year... Spin a little on ice and then catch a patch of asphalt.

Already have the LSD and a stage 2 clutch so I'm just going to ease her outta the hole next time. I mean she really is like a g/f you beat her too hard and she will break. Haha.. J/k maybe not.

Not neccisarily any power level just lots of power and some grip outta the hole is all you need with these cars.

I don't worry much about the tires spinning then gripping but it's when it's actually wheel hopping. It just sounds horrible so you can only imagine how hard that is on your car.

I think there has been a person or two who has broken axles with a totally stock car hasn't there?

The moral of the story is if you start to wheel hop let off the gas and hit the clutch really damn quick.

3-4 here in Arizona have broken while stock. Everytime we go to the track and see a cobalt that is not on the forums and thinks he is too good talk to us, you will see him on the back of a flat bed leaving the track after 3-4 runs. Gets them every time. They finally get a quick car and think it's track time. If only they could learn from my experiences, but no....they're too cool in their new car and they have to prove me something.
