Side exit exhaust

Hey Ive seen a couple of posts talking about the ability to run side exit exhaust on our cobalts. I was wanting to do something different with my exhaust so i was just wondering if anyone that has this done will post pics of it?

I searched but couldnt come up with any pics so if i missed something just post me a link.

I appreciate it
David

Don't do it... between loss of flow/shorter exhaust and oddity of install will run and sound very weird. But it's your car.

Why would it sound like ****? If you have a muffler and a resonator it shouldnt sound bad at all. I dunno maybe it would. I havent looked into that much yet because i was waiting on feedback from ppl on here.

Im not sure how much room you would have for a muffler so its possible that would be the reason it would sound like ****

if I remember correctly

turbo charger = you want shorter exhaust system

supercharger = you want longer one

I seen at a meet in IL a guy with a butterfly valve that dumped his exhaust open header style on this SRT-4. It sounded sick!

That and the fact its hard to run the side exit, too many clearance issues, I Can see it getting ripped off easily

actually ive seen a focus with side exit exaust ran correctly with nice quiet muffler and resionator and it wasnt very loud at all. this was on a svt focus with a supercharged motor and the exaust was not bad or loud as hell it was very nice

if done correctly it will remain quiet you will have to move some stuff around but if you dont put a fart cannon on it and do it right it will sound alright not the best but its your car man.

no room for mufflers, let alone a muffler AND a resonator... your muffler with be about an inch off the ground... first bump you can say to the muffler

I'm running a side exit setup and granted I don't drive a 2.2 , it is pretty damn loud . your gonna loose some power down low but will notice a slight gain in the top end , plus be ready to throw some codes . I'm running a gmpp extrude honed header , stock dp(soon to be changed to CA catless DP), and a magnaflow resonater . I have pics somewhere but there shitty ones from night time shots . I'm gonna take some more tomm. after I wash it .

I can already tell you theres NO room for a resonator and muffler underneath the car. Thats why the muffler is tucked up under the trunk and the res. sits in a very tiny hump area

you said you have a resonator, not a muffler... a muffler is a little bigger than a resonator

I'm not running a muffler but there is room under there you just have to find someone that can really tuck it , IF you run a small resonater right at the DP and then run a nice slim tubular muffler from your company of choice it will be fine . I can drive head on into speed bumps , curbs etc. and have never heard or felt the pipe scrape , hell my bumper takes more of a beating than the exhaust does LOL !

I have a side exit exhaust! It is really loud and raspy! I have a 3" downpipe no cat to a 3" side exit, and a 30" long, 6" round resonator!!. If you wan't to know how it sounds you can hear it on the CIAZ Teaser video. Just search that and youll find it. Im the silver one, you can hear it when im comming down the hill.

There is plenty of room and your exhaust doesn't hang an inch off the ground. Our cars are a tad bit lower and i never scrape!

Alright well if im going to sound like a can full of nuts and bolts im good. It was just something different that noone here in my town has so i was going to get something a little different.

Im a delivery driver and i have to deal with shitty roads and driveways all night long so i cant have clearance issues or i will be fucked. Thats the reason im waiting till i move before i lower my car.

Thanks for the info guys
I think that was the fastest set of replies i have ever recieved
David

Bamfnss,

That sounds exactly like my VW dune buggy haha. No offense at all man...thats just what it sounded like.

Cops are way too bad here for me to have exhaust that will make me stand out that much.

Hey,

What exactly was your setup? Header, GM Extrude Honed, stock? DP w/ or w/o cat? Also, what size piping was that? 3"? Just wondering...
