I think having longer exhaust piping deadens the sound alot

unless you can get a cat, resonator AND muffler under there before the exit its going to be loud regardless. it just depends on what you can stand...

I personally wouldn't do it, its not going to sound very good at all and it won't do much for performance. I ran open header on my 2.2 for fun and that was not even driveable at that level...side exhaust will be quieter but not by much IMO.

it was 2.5 inch piping with xtc downpipe w/o cat.

well you could keep the cat im guessing that there would be enough room for it and maybe an extra resonator.

You can keep the stock down pipe, and add a resonator, preferably 18" long and 4" round. But your still gonna have unbelievable amounts of drone in the cabin from just cruising. Highway driving sucks, even the radio turned up doesn't cure it.

Mmmm, nothing like a 4 inch diameter res. to kill off any "gains" from a side exit

One funny thing, a buddy of mine has an Srt-4 with a side exhaust on it, and the interior sound is actually quieter than the stock exhaust.

Ive never seen a resonator kill any power. I dyno'd with it straight, and with the resonator and it made absolutely no difference. The noise was barly quieted down as well, its just pointless to do on a non "turbo" car.

My car sounded just like BAMFNSS's when the clamp after the resonator came loose and the pipe opened up. Actually, at that time I still had a cat. But the sound with no muffler was horrible and way too loud. It did make me feel like I had a race car when I started it, but after that I felt like a damn ricer. Only had to drive it home and back to work though.
