Underhood caught on fire?

Well recently my firewall under my hood caught fire. I dont know, how, but I assume the header got so hot it made it catch fire? The only thing that doesnt make sense is I have had it this way for months. Why now all of a sudden does it catch fire? Now I did get an oil change the day before and I do see a trail of oil, that looks like they may have spilled some. Is there a posibility the oil caught fire or something and caused the firewall to ignight?

I drove it the last day and have had no duplication of the problem. I bought a fire extinguisher and am keeping it in my car just in case. Just curious what your guys thoughts of it may be?

dude that is so weird...my buddy has had his header glowing red before and no fire lol. I think what may have happened is the oil that spilled caused the fire since it could have gotten some residue on the underhood piece. just my 2 cents

IM thinking about buying that 1400c Paint, and maybe spraying it on the firewall and see if that will protect it. I doubt my header reaches those temps

I would think it was something dripping onto the header/manifold. Thats the only area hot enough to create a flame. Hopefully it wasn't fuel that was burning.

Fuel rail is fully intact, and is to the right of the firewall, so I doubt that had anything to do iwth it. Its just so strange. I mean it was pretty bad, I had to beat it with my leather coat to put it out. The firewall looked all dry rotted too. Definately looked flamable Luckily no warping to the paint on my hood, and nothing appears damaged. I big coolant metal pipe was right there, and did turn slightly yellow, but thats it. Nothing too serious.

No fuel leaks?

Is your b-pipe touching the firewall at all?

Like you said about the oil. Some was probably spilled and the header fired it up.

haha, yea, surprisingly the coat was unscathed. It was either that or let it keep burning hehe. Yea, no fuel leakage problems, IM sure if i was leaking fuel it would have been caught by a CEL or by the dealership when they did their 50 point inspection durring the oilchange.

My stock tires apparently have survived well. 6mm/32 left on all 4 tires. I assume they still have some life left? How low until you should replace them? I have a winter set in my shed, but it hasnt really been much of a winter, so IM still cruising on the stockers.

I had trouble with my car getting overly hot until I got better air flow and cooling. It was hitting 240 on a long sitting idle. I have it down to 205 max. The engine seems to run really warm stock, at least it did on mine.

I was stupid enough to let gm change my oil the first time. They spilled it a lot. I had to scrub the engine for an hour. Also, my oil was jet black 3 months later when I checked it. I changed it myself last month... three f-ing months after they changed it. Much better.. it was a free change, but no one else is ever touching it again. I think they just dump some oil on it for the hell of it or something.

Even when my car was on fire my coolant said it was 157 degrees, and my intake air temp on my interceptor was 34 degrees. I touched the top of the engine (which has the same oil stains now you mentioned) and it was barely warm to the touch.

Your oil should turn black much faster when you first get your car as its burning in. your first 2 oilchanges are usually your worst. I always check my oil after an oilchange to make sure its filled to the right level, and also yellowish in color and not black.
