Vendors Look - Grille Center Idea

Mainly for the Apperance vedors, but for anyone else who may be interested in something like this.

One of the other members mentioned painting/vinyling the central grille piece that we all have. I know as well that some members have done this, with varying degrees of success. Below is one members painted grill, as you can see (at least from a distance) it certainly toughens up the front of the car -

My question/idea - would any vendors be interested in producing a black central grille cover out of the exact same plastic as the rest of the stock grille slats. Something inexpensive to produce and easy bolt on, with fastners. Just a piece of black plastic that goes right over that somewhat girlish yellow, red, blue or silver bar.

This would allow 'Balt owners (me - and I'm sure others) a good way to create the apperance above without permanently altering their vehicle.

Think about it vendors - a thin piece of plastic universal for all model 'Balts that you could easily sell for $20 a piece. Any takers?

Yeah - I was looking around and saw a couple of guys doing this, spray painting. I really like it.
I will definitely be going this route - whether it's through a professional painter, vinyl (thinking this may be the best option, to vinyl wrap this piece and the other slats) or if I have a piece fabricted as an overlay. I have a silver 'Balt so I'm thinking this will look very nice with either a polished aluminum or gunmetal bowtie, depedending on what I decide on my final wheel decision. I'll also be removing the lower grille and either replacing it with mesh or leaving it open (I have an ss na).

But I'd really prefer a vendor pick this up and go with it. I honestly can't understand why one hasn't already - surely it can't be that much of a challenge and I'd think there's money to be made.

TNT Autosport will be producing a full line of custom appearance mods.

As for your "simple bolt on" idea, wont work. the plastic is molded and is farely large (from what i remember), or i might be thinking of something else.

We will be offering custom grilles though, some of which are the Mesh grill, a billet grill (powdercoated in any color you want),but im sure i can rig something up to simply place over it if you want. like a vinyl of some sort.

PM me any questions, or you can generaly get a faster response if you email me at sales@tntautosport.com

Carter -
What I'm talking about is the plastic piece that runs through the center of the grille. Just replacing the grille itself wouldn't change anything unless you were to cut this piece out, I believe it's a part of the body. The part the bowtie is affixed to.
It isn't that thick particuarly - maybe 1 1/2 wide and 1/2 tall at the biggest.
What I see in my mind -

A piece of plastic designed as an overlay, think about it like a cell phone cover.

It just snaps over the factory piece, you could use the bowtie fasteners to hold it down in the center and some clips on either side.

It could even have its own holes in the center to become the new bowtie holder. Would really look great with some fabricated black mesh, too.

yeah, i have vinyl over mine.

the best part about it, is that a plastic overlay wouldnt need any fancy way of attaching, the bow-tie would bolt on over top and hold it on.

I'll get ahold of scott from Cobalt Performance Parts and talk him into it

Hopefully my grill mod will be completed in a few months. I've got something clean and simple in mind, but a design I have yet to see on any other Cobalts.

Hell man, I dont even know anymore. The **** with my building is pissing me off, they are trying to say I cant be "loud" between the hours of 8pm-11am...I cant have in excess of more than 10 people at any time..

I told them the loud thing was negotiable, but the people thing is hard...I cant tell people to wait in line outside until someone leaves.

So I found a building a few miles outside of town, NOTHING around it, yet its off the highway... I can do whatever the **** I want.

So, im pushin paperwork on that one.

How loud is loud Carter? If you want to stay in an area, maybe you could put some sound deadening on the walls like the use in radio studios or just really, really thick carpet on the walls? Just an idea..

The people thing.. what they don't know..

Do you mean the vinyl from your stripes (which look great by the way!) or you've added a full piece of vinyl over that whole section? Do you have any pics showing this?

I contacted a group called MRK Group to see if they would be interested in producing parts for the SS. I've bought many items from them when I had my Ram, they make AWESOME quality ****.

Here's their site: http://www.mrkgroup.net/store2/index.php

Like I said, I contacted them and gave them the forum - they may post. Hopefully they contact an admin first.

So I'm going to go ahead and take mine to the vinyl shop this weekend to get a piece cut for this. Figured if it didn't look good, I could always just pull it off.
I'm also going to replace the bowtie with an SS emblem, I'm considering using the large ones that are on the sides of the Impalas and Montes - I think they're about 3/4 in longer, but otherwise the same - anybody used these in this fashion? Look good?

This is until I find a polished aluminum bowtie - which is my question, has anyone seen aftermarket bowties or SS emblems that actually fit into the OE grille holes? Preferably OE style, I've seen some members with an altered SS logo, not looking for that. I've emailed MRZ to see if they may have interest at some point since they are kinda the shiney-stuff experts.

I don't really have any concern about this emblem coming off, but I'd like a long term replacement in the event someone actually does pick up my center grille-cover idea.
