So some asshat did something to my rear bumper (looks like a tire got rolled into it and scratched it to shit).

It looks like it might be able to be fixed without repaint so any suggestions (buff, wax, etc?)

I would post pics but I'm currently at work.

Need to have pics to be able to tell for sure but meguiars new Scratch-X works pretty well and can be used by hand or with a dual action buffer. Clean it good, hit it with some of that followed by a coat of wax and if the scratches arent super deep you should be alright!

Here is a link about what it means to remove scratches. I know alittle about this area. First can you feel the scratch in the paint with your finger nail. If you can't then it can be removed with Scratch X by using your hand or a PC. If you can feel it then it may need to be touched up.

Like he said if you can feel it with your fingernail then it can't be buffed out. If not try a good scratch or swirl remover (I use Tropi-care's TC-8), if that doesn't cut it you may have to step up to a more abrasive compound (like 3M Perfect It II), then swirl, then a polish. But if you don't have any experience I would use caution if you have to use a compound. Extremes may call for wet sanding, but I'd leave that to the professionals ;)

Get some 3M polishing compound and buff the shit out of it with an electric buffer...as long as the scratches are surface scratches and you can't feel them dig into the paint when you rub your fingernail across it, should work.

I haven't used it, but my friend swears by Scratch X. It got rid of some pretty nasty scratches on his car.
