I haven't read the manual, but it probably stands for "intermediate" as in 2nd gear. But I'm thinking it should be a four speed auto transmission, right?? :cssNET: :cssNET:

Ok guys here we go:

Drive Intermediate Low D-I-L

if you shift to I it will shift out of overdrive and as the RPM'S lower it will shift into yet another lower gear. It's almost like 2 in 1!!

Drive the car to see what i'm talking about. :-D

I have one and read the manual. It is gears 1-3 (maybe also 4, but i am not sure)and downshifts to a lower gear easier. It is meant for hilly roads to provide more engine braking, but it is fun for back road driving. But it does eat up the gas, and the shifts become more stiff. So, it is not something you would want to use all the time. Also, it does stand for intermediate.

My 2.2 seems similar actually. It's written as P-RND21. If I put the car in 2nd when entering the highway, it will eventually shift into 3rd gear on it's own , at around 4,000 rpm.

The manual indicates for example that putting the car in 1st will not mean it will shift to 1st if you are moving fast. It says "1st: This position holds you in the lowest gear possible for the given vehicle speed".
