My SS Gas Mileage

When I first picked up my 05 SS/SC a few days ago, it was getting pretty poor gas mileage. I refilled with 93 octane, and it seemed to improve a little. I assume that the previous owner had been running 87, or maybe just filled it with 87 before giving it to me. Anyway, my DIC is now reading only 21.3 avg. The highest I saw was 28 when i hat cruise control set for 65 in 5th gear. I'm on pace to only get about 260-270 out of this tank. This just seems a little low to me.. next time I fill up I will calculate my mpg the real way. Is it possible my DIC could be reading lower than it actually is? I know the general complaint about the DIC is the opposite, that it reads too high. Anyway if you can help me out that would be great.

Oh and btw, the car is stock, has only 5500 miles and I am by no means beating on it, but I'm not exactly driving like a grandma either.

Thanks a lot,
Mike

i drive to and from work like a grandma mostly, although getting on I-95 i usually juice it a bit each night on the way home. i average about 26-28mpg over the course of a tank, and at 70 in 5th gear with cruise control i've seen as high as 31-33mpg consistently.

basically i try to stay out of boost as much as possible, and shift just above 3k rpms in 1st 2nd and 3rd.

I only get ~250 miles to a tank. I think my average mpg is no more than 22mpg. I do a lot of city driving. On the highway I've noticed I get about 33mpg driving about 70-75mph. Awhile back I reset the gauge and watched my mpg under full throttle and it was 4-6ish.

Thanks a lot,

You've got to keep track of actual miles per actual gallons. The DIC may be way off. Mine reads 2 mpg too optimistic. Yours may be too pessimistic. With the warmer weather, you should get much better than 21mpg unless you have your foot in it a lot.

I get from 24 to 30 mpg (mixed driving) and I have the Stage II on my 06 SS/SC. Most of the time I'm getting about 27mpg. Wichita, Kansas doesn't have much stop-and-go driving.

If you enjoy winding out the tach (and who doesn't occasionally), forget about the mileage and enjoy the ride. It is fun pushing the car to the redline (2nd and 3rd) at on-ramps.

With my current mods I'm getting roughly 25MPG on an all city 40 mile per day commute.

I only have an air filter put on my 06 S/C, and I'm getting about 32 on the hiway and 24-26 in the city....but I am still driving it pretty hard since it's new. I've been pretty happy with the mileage.
