gmpp vs. aftermarket

alright guys, just looking for some input. lately i've been all about the gm stage 2 upgrade to keep the warranty, but after seeing so many people barely hitting 13.9, it makes me want to rethink my thoughts. keeping the warranty would be nice, as i'm in school and probably couldn't afford a blown motor, but i realize i could get way more speed with some hptuners and a 2.7 and still be fairly reliable. (granted the tune is good). another problem i might have is finding a place to install this stuff where i am. can anybody try to somewhat lead me, explain to me what the process is on getting some tuning into the car and what not? i've read countless threads and still can't make up my mind cause i dont know exactly how it works. any advice/ help is appreciated

I got 15 lbs of boost from my stage 2 kit, and now I am getting 16.5 lbs with my stage pulley.

I'd put priorities and possiblilities over your wants. Like you said, you can't afford anything if your engine goes on you...this is the risk you run with when you start re-engineering.

I think you'll live if you're a little slower than you want to be rather than having no money for a engine rebuild, no warranty to do it for a free and no running vehicle.

where are you in delaware?
i'm local and sell the stage 2 kits for 562.50, you wouldn't have to pay shipping and my dealership does the install pretty frequently

i have to say i agree with you njhk, but after going to the track and seeing a stage 2 balt run a faster time than me only twice, kinda makes me think. keep in mind i only have the injen. i actually beat him one time. anyway, i'll do some thinking..and ozer you know who i am, we met at the sonic meet and i friended you on facebook. i'll keep in touch to get all that done..probably within the next few weeks since its getting nice out and all.

saving money for an evo is also a possibility, although i love the ss.

You're in a stock SS/SC with an injen and you beat someone with stg2? I bet there was some driver skills taking part in that race.

sure did. not ragging on him because he is a member here, just using it as an example. i ran a 14.5 and he ran 14.7. you can see my fastest slip in the gallery, not bad for the first time at the track.

by the way we are basically the farthest north you can go in delaware. its a pretty long drive..

north deleware isn't far from where i am in south jersey. i'll do the install... but then you have to have it tuned..
Tune time in tom's river n.j. is a really good shop, and they are supporting vendors of this site

yea..we'll see what i decide to do. if i decide to gmpp then i'll just get the dealer to do it. if i go with a smaller pulley and what not i'll let you know. gotta see exactly how tight the money is going to be.

this is not advised, but you CAN get a $60 zzp 3" pulley. you can install it without doing injectors. so long as you don't let it hit 15psi.

just a thought.. but seeing as you are worried about your motor and warranty, i would say go with GM parts.

in the future i will help you install anything that i know how to do.. p.m. me before you go and spend $80 or more per hour for a parts install

thanks appreciate it! what i may do is go with the gmstg2 and then put on a 2.9 seeing as the tune is pig rich anyway. and then get the gmpp performance exhaust and be done for a while until the warranty is up. safe to go 2.9 on the tune from what i've read? any objections?

make good friends with people involved with cars and i guarantee you , your life will be better , when i was in high school i had a friend who owned his own tow company , if i needed something installed he knew where to go if he couldnt do it himself, he put on my -Shift Kit, Headers and 3.25 Pulley on my GTP for 125 BUCKS , anywhere else i would have gone would have cost me at least 450 , then when i moved i know a guy who works at a small shop and i get little **** done for free , exhaust leak tests , i get my oil for some stupid price , and im just like you , i have stage 2 right now but i just ordered hp tuners, cobra he,60lbers ,2.6 and a wideband i dont want to blow my motor thats why im gonna try and be smart while tuning this hoe , but well see

the exhaust and intake actually make them work harder... more airflow = more power= more fuel...

yea my mods without the intake.... it was 90 something degress with somewhere around 95% humidty... standing proof that all those people saying their times are shiity at high altitude, they wish they could be at sea level....

pray to be at sea level no humidity and cool lol

the car is noticeably faster now with just a new tune from DOC

Yeah, maybe you should just hold off on investing then.
