Question Winter tires??

Alrightie guys, I own a SS. I'm going to Germany soon where they actually have snow and winters and everything. So, I was wondering, what size tires and/or rims should I put on for my winter tires?? Any suggestions?

I'm more worried about changing rim sizes and then having my speedometer be wrong. Thanks!

Getting the right tire size.
Whatever size rim you choose this will help you choose the right tire size without being too off on the speedo. Just read the site and knock yourself out.

If it takes you to some sort of home page follow these directions
1 Click the "Wild Weasel's J-Body HowTo Site" (don't worry about the j-body part)
2 Click the "Choose the Correct Tire Size." and go from there.
Its kinda easy to use if you're having any trouble hit me up with a PM and I'll help you out. Be sure to read what he has written before you use the calculator.

Check out this post they have advice in there i believe

No SS in Korea

No, I didn't buy it in Korea. I bought it over in FL when I was home for my mid tour. I wish I had it here though, TONS of Tiburons (sp?) out here, being Korea and all. It would definately be a head turner!

Here's a useful online tire size conversion calculator. Use it all the time here at work.

I checked out those sites. GREAT info, but I'm too much of a newb when it comes to downgrading tires. If it were my old cavalier, I'd just keep the rims and slap some winter tires on. Having to downgrade the rims mucks things up a bit.

So, does anyone know of a good rim & tire package (w/sizes) to use for the SS for winter? Thanks again!

Erod, great info! At least now I know that I can get winter tires in the factory size; however would it be a good idea to keep the original rims? Do they make 18" steelies? LOL

I'm going to use my oem rims on winter tires. Once my company gets in some 5-110 wheels I'll be sure to post here as to where to order them.

Put 205/65/15 tires on 15" rims. Narrower for better drivability and the tires on the rims are just a tiny bit smaller in overall diameter. Thus the speedo will read almost 100% correctly, and the tires are gauranteed to have clearance in the wheel wells. Plus steel 15" rims and the tires are cheap. I've worked it out, thats the best winter rim/tire combination for winter driving on the Cobalt SS-SC.

I live in Canada and I'm going to do exactly this for only about $700 Canadian.

205/60 16" is very close to stock SS - just cost more than the 15" option.

Actually I think you've got a better option there with the 205/60-16's there. I think my post earlier suggesting that 15" rims would work is wrong. I realized today that the 15" rim may not clear the large front brake rotors, whereas a 16" rim should have no problem. I think I'll try that instead on second thought.

you have to have a 16in rim to fit the car because of the break's on the front of the car

Ya, you are right......................Player1 is setting up a group buy for 16's..............with the best tread it's about $900.00 CAD installed for all four.
