How restrictive are our 2.4L Mufflers?

I mean for a 173 HP 4 Banger, she is pretty quiet, more quiet than what my stock sunfire was.
So I'm guessing it's a lot more quiet due to being very restrictive with the exhaust.

Anyone have a cutaway pic of our stock Muffler?

heard a sound clip with now exhaust

i heard a sound clip of a 2.4 with no exhaust just right outta the header... jesus it was loud but sounded sweet. lets say it was about 2 or 3 times as loud as the stock 2.4 exhaust.

our mufflers are really not restrictive, its the combination of the downpipe and stock exaust system that is restrictive

I tore the muffler off, granted I lost some low end, but the mid/high end power is incredible.

I also tore mine off within a month, and the resonator, and just welded on a straight pipe and FlowMaster 40 series muffler, with the stock tip back on. Loud, but yeah, some low end was lost.

i kept the resonator, the sound is very distinct.... cross between american muscle / import.

But by no means ricey sounding.....but yes, VERY VERY loud.

I havnt heard the exhaust at WOT, since in neutral/park it only does 4k. and i had the woman do it.

So would you recommend that if I want to keep low end torque but also add HP, I should just replace the muffler with a another one, perhaps the Magnaflow muffler?

In short, yes. Id actualy recommend a full exhaust.

The loss of backpressure is what nets you the loss of the low end power.

:::sigh::: The 2.0 and the 2.4 shair the same catback. Its the same part # from Gm if you have a SC car or the 2.4. The manifold's are also the same part. The cats are different depending on where you live (ie California car)
