3rd gear car wont go past 5000 RPMs
3rd gear car wont go past 5000 RPMs
so this past weekend was the spring MD meet, I got my #60s put in and my 2.6 on and DOC tuned, this weekend Im going do my full exhaust, and hopefully heatexchanger,
1st gears perfect 2nd gears perfect 3rd gear I hit 5000 RPMs and the car stops pulling still boosting at like 20 PSI or soo but it doesnt pull, same with 4th gear and I dont know about 5th gear, Im supposed to get my NGK plugs in today or tomorrow, could it be that I still have the stock plugs in or that I dont have a full exhaust? or anything eles?
I have only layed into it like twice just to see how it feels and things, I dont want to run it real hard without my heat exchanger and full exhaust,
what could it be? and the only code I have is a p0172 rich code, whitch Im not too worried about, I dont have a wideband but I will be buying mine next week
by the way, DOCs tune is amazing!! and thanx to everyone that helped me at the meet,
shane

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a rich condition (too little oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.
You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a misfire.
Causes
A code P0172 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters (K&N, etc.) can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled
* There could be a vacuum leak.
* There could be a fuel pressure or delivery problem
Possible Solutions
Possible solutions include:
* Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
* Cleanthe MAF sensor. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
* Inspect fuel lines for cracks, leaks, or pinches
* Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail
* Check the fuel injectors, they may be dirty. Use fuel injector cleaner or get them professionally cleaned/replaced.
* Check for an exhaust leak before the first oxygen sensor (this is unlikely to cause the problem, but it is possible)

if you're running the stock plugs still... probably getting blow-out... don't get on it until you put the plugs in.
Doc... can't believe you tuned a car with out it being setup.... come on man, you know how these kids are these days.

its not the MAF sensor Ive been running the K&N Cai for like 4 months now
all my question was could it be the plugs? I forgot I needed them, and ordered them a lil late, theyll be her eiether today or tomorrow.
and 06blackg85ss the reason I had him tune it last weekend is becuase Ill have the full exhaust set up and heat exchanger done with in 2 weeks and he wasent going to be around then so I figured Ide have him do it now and the tune #60s and 2.6 is done, so I dont have to drive all the way out to VA since he was at the meet in MD near me,

ok I replaced the plugs and it still does it, Im taking it easy on the car just went hard one time too see whast going on..
NO code except the p0172 rich code, Im starting to think its my exhaust..
what you all think?

Did you just recently reoil the filter.
If so I would clean the MAF sensor for the time it takes.
I read one of the info bulletins on this describing your exact problems stating that after market filter oil will bugger up the maf readings and cause alot of weird problems.

Ive had the intake on for 4 months now never cleaned it since its been in. never got a CEL with it either, after my #60s and 2.6 adn DOC tune it did it, its not that its running rich is my problem, its that I cant go past 5000 RPMs. my car stops pulling at 5000 RPMS full boost but just stops pulling,

If you are running a stock downpipe it could be a clogged CAT.
Either that or that 2.6 is generating so much heat by 5,000rpms in 3rd gear that you are loosing power.
So i'm thinking clogged CAT, heat or even a dirty MAF. Get some MAF cleaner and spray it. That's all I can think of since you changed plugs and it's not that.

Stock CATs are notorious for getting clogged by rich tunes.
So maybe it's now clogged after romping on it to get it tuned. Any rotten egg smells?
nope didnt notice a rotten egg smell, I start checking though, and,
last night I wanted to try to take it past 5000 RPMS soo in scedond gear I kept giving it gas at 5000 RPMs is slowly climbed to around 5800-6000 RPMs, and as soon as it hit that the car just TOOK OFF like threw me back in my seat took off, lol and same for 3rd gear, havent tried 4th but Im sure its the same, the car bogs down really bad around 5000 tp 6000 rpms and then takes off, all while still at full boost, with no knock
