Why don't they make a supercharged G5? They should.
They make the Saturn Ion Redline, the Cobalt SS/SC, but why not the G5 supercharged? They make them with the 2.2 and the 2.4. Why not a 2.0 S/C?? I've looked all around for one and to see if they make them, but I can't find anything saying that they do. Like I said in another post, I'm at work and I literally have nothing to do for the next 2 hours until I get to go home.
Well, they discontinued the I-RL, from what I remember. So only one car could have the 2.0L S/C.
The 2.4L are also used on the Sky and the Solstice. I think they only wanted ot make one S/C's performance vehicle,a nd they chose Chevy to do it. (That is whta I think, its not necessarily fact, just my take on it)

They definitely do not make a 2.0 G5, But I read something a little while ago about them coming out with a vehicle called the G4, and that would have the option for the 2.0 SC. Not sure about the truth behind it though
EDIT- Found the article. Judging by the date, Im guessing they scraped the idea, or It was just BS to begin with.

The G5 name is dumb. G4 made alot more sense. I mean, the GP is now the G8. V8. Makes sense. The G6. V6. Makes sense. But the G5? I4. Umm... 2 doors. Umm... No clue where the 5 came from.
A s/c variant would be cool, and if Pontiac brought the G5 out before the Cobalt, they wouldv'e had it. Pontiac has always been the "sporty division". But the Chevy came out first, so boom. I'm still not sure why the best model is the 2.4. Eventhough I like the 2.4...

Yea, like some of the others that said it, the G4 become the G5. Last time I was in Mexico I only saw G5's, and they were all coupes. The only G4 I saw was a sedan, so I'm guessin they have two names, one for the sedan, one for the coupe. I may be wrong tho.
Back on topic, it would be pointless in my opinion to have three cars that are exactly similar in powertrain and performance. That will be too redundant (sp) The RL's are gone, since the entire ION lineup is being replaced by the Astra, I think sometime later this year. There will be a Astrea RL, I'm not sure on what engine it'll use, I'm guessing the 2.0t found in the Sky RL and Solstice GXP.

ok guys the astra is nothing new its been out in the uk for years now if you guys get a performance version it will be a 2.0 litre turbo model and if it stays the same as the way the uk is it will be a coupe 3 door these engines are extremly tunable and give good bhp if you want to find out more look up the vauxhall astra vxr heres a qwick link for you to find out about base models http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...rticleId=46886
my friend stopped at a saturn dealer to look at an ion redline. the guys at saturn were telling us about the astra, its going to have a 2.0 turbo like the sky. my buddy is waiting for it now.
The explaination is long and confusing but I'll give it a shot. I had a ittle "inside info" on this from when I worked for GM so here goes!
Because Pontiac was never ment to have the G5 in the first place. The Cobalt was ment for Chevy as a replacement for the Cavalier. Pontiac was due to lose the Sunfire and get nothing to replace it. Pontiac complained to GM that they were losing out on a whole segment of buyers, GM in turn had the designers pen a Cobalt with Pontiac inspired front and rear fascia's and TA DA! the G5 was born. This is why the Cobalt was out first here in the states, Canada got both at about the same time as they're a little behind us for GM's new roll outs.
GM had planned to give Pontiac the Solstice and had planned from the start to turbo it this IS Pontiac's small performance car. Pontiac is due to drop the G5 before Chevy loses the Cobalt unless it does extremely well because Pontiac is set to be the only GM name plate that has strctly RWD performance cars. Thats right Pontiac is set within the next few years to have ALL RWD performance cars and to be like the Pontiac of the 60's where they were the prooving grounds for all of GM's hi performance cars.
Hope this clears things up for you.

Theres another possibility--one people hee do not like to face. That the S/C will be dead in 08.
So why bother putting it on the G5 for 1-2 years? It's interesting to note that while alot of GM egines are rated under the new HP SAE method the LSJ is not.
It cots money to do this--and if it was its last year---why bother. Read into this as mcuh as you like. I think my oast point has some merit .

This is accurate, I read on GMInsidenews that Pontiac will possibly introduce this RWD Compact bearing the G4 nameplate in 2010

ya ive heard this as well. the G6 should be going RWD by 2010 with the new 3.6 DIV6 with the 300 hp. hopefully they dont just offer it in automatic and have a 6 speed manual avaible. the G5 i dont get there reasoning for naming it. i mean it could have logical sence if they tried to sort out there numbers. like all the odd numbers are 2 doors and all the even numbers are 4 doors. or vice verse would be kool to. or just keep it all evens, or all odds. just make up ur mind tho.
G5 ---- odd ---- I4 ---- no sence
G6 ---- even -- V6 ---- logical
G8 ---- even -- V8 ---- logical
no logical sence with G5. they prolly just said "its easier to say five then four. so i think it sounds cooler called G5 rather then G4" even tho G4 would have been logical.
pontiacs mentality is erroneous.
First excuse my bad english...Ì`m mexican the explain of the names are these..In Mexico Pontiac launch this car like G4 (sedan & coupe) before Pontiac start to sell this car in Canada. After launch the Car in Canda as Pontiag G5 Pursuit, and finally this car arrives to USA like Pontiac G5. Finally Pontiac decides rename the car to 3 countries like G5. I buy my G4 in March 2006, but in Mexico start the sell of this car in December 2005. I hope this information clear the confussions, and again excuse me for my horrible english, see you all!! https://www.cobaltss.net/gallery/bro...=3&userid=6028
screwed us up.
