Anyone have any 1/4 mile times or dyno numbers yet on the 2.4L?? I'm going to be ordering a SS here in a week or so and don't know yet whether I want the 2.0 SC or 2.4.

Does anyone know if the clutch in the 2.4SS is the same as the one in the 2.0SS/SC?

clutch is different, the 2.0L can take more abuse, but is far grabbier.

No track numbers yet. Avro is hitting the track this week, I'll be there in a week or two.

Once I'm done breaking mine in (about 1000 miles) I'm gonna hit the track and get some numbers for the 4 speed, so I have a baseline to mod. from. it'll probably be about a month for me.

Are you just wondering if you'll be happy with the SS? Really at best it will be a low to mid 15 sec car. The S/C is a mid 14. If you want the fastest one and can afford, its an easy choice. The 2.4L is toned down a little but obviously not as fast.

So whats important to you?

i think the 2.4 will put down high 15's in the 1/4 in auto trim, and mid 15's in manual trim. There is quite a bit of difference between the S/C SS and the 2.4 SS.

Maybe next week!!! They cancelled the races tonight  We had a little rain yesterday and early today. Damn I am mad---two weeks in a row

I'll state it now, if I can't get the SS 2.4L to at least a 15.2 stock, I'll be upset. Look at my sig, I have owned two straight cars that reached 15.2 in the 1/4 mile, and this car here is the most powerful car I've owned.

None of the car magazines have tested one yet??? I checked Car & Driver, Motortrend, and Road & Tracks website's, but couldn't find a review. Surprising, since the cars been out for 2 months! I would have thought someone would have tested it now.

anyone see Sport compact car on the Scion tC?
Said it had "class topping torque" or something like that - Hello! SS 2.4!!
A magazine seriously needs to test this car, it's killin' me!

MikeSS

Yeah, I'm really waiting on a magazine test too. Since the don't run on empty tanks, take out spare tires etc, and don't use drag strips with traction adding elements, I want to see what they get as a 1/4 mile time.

A 1996 camaro V6 5-Speed got 15.9 in the 1/4 mile with Car and Driver, and I got a 15.19 at my local track (grippy, low altitude).....so I hope the mags get a mid-high 15 out of the car so I know what to expect.

That being said, I'll be hitting the track next weekend, so I should know by then.

Hello I'm new and just bought a summit white SS 2.4L. I have noticed a lot of guys trashing the N/A SS because they have the supercharged car. What ever, its still front drive. I have a old chevelle. Now thats an muscle car. 12 sec is way faster than mid 14's. I had a old vw bug that I wasted a lot of money on and it ran 16's. The 2.4L is pretty peppy and gets decent milage. I raced a srt-4 and had him good for 200 ft. then he blasted away. Thats when I go get my chevelle. And when I go to work I get my cobalt. Its a nice peppy car for the $.

welcome to the msg board. The number of 2.4L owners are growing and I am hearing less complaing for the S/C people

MikeSS--your right. I don't expect a super 1/4 mile time form the magazines for several reasons. (cars they test aren't usually broken in ect)

But if Car and Driver got a 15.5 (M/T too I think) from a Mitsu Lancer Ralliart (2900lbs+, 162hp) they should be able to get a little better then that. I wanna see the handling/braking numbers too.

Wonder what they will say about the SS anme debate?

i wanted to get the ss supercharged model, but it's just a little out of my range since i'm only 18... so i'll probably get the ss model... it's still got balls for a 4 cyl. and gets great gas mileage...

What was your 60 foot time? And I'm quessing you were still in fourth since you can go passed 100 mph in fourth, what rpm? Wheel spin? I know mine barks pretty good in second. What elevation? The only mods I have found is n20.

A 2.4L 5 speed goes through the traps in 3rd gear--can't rember what rpm---but its under 6000rpm.

Not mine, 3rd gear at about 6200RPM I believe.

Sounds pretty comparable to the Solstice. Factor in the much nastier CD and larger wheels to rotate and you Cobalt SS should move a little quicker than the Solstice as your numbers prove compared to what the mags have gotten on the Solstice 2.4L VVT ECOTEC. The mags were all driving pre-production cars though for testing.

[Motor Trend]
0-60 = 7.0
1/4 Mile = 15.6 sec @ 88.2 mph

[Edmunds.com]
0-60 = 7.7
1/4 Mile = 15.8 @ 87 mph

[Automobile]
0-60 = 7.3
1/4 Mile = 15.8 @ 89 mph

[Road and Track]
0-60 = 7.4s
1/4 Mile = 15.8s @ 86.8 mph

[Car and Driver]

you beat me to it. third gear takes you there. i also prefer to watch the road rather than the tac at that point in time. just kinda shift by feel.

hey the 2.4 is pretty quick. 0-60 in low 7s. the 2.0 does it in low 6's. and the 2.2 does it in mid 8's. haha, the 2.2 is so slow.

Well i got a time. I only went once because it started to rain and there was alot of people and i just didnt go twice. My time was shitty cause this was my first time ever to a track. I ran a 16.407@85. My 60' was like 2.5. Once i get my launches down, i should be doin much better.

Stupid track last night had no track prep. I only could get a 15.27, a 15.28, and a bunch of 15.3X's

There was no traction and I kept spinning, oh well.

My 2.4 is still under break in. I haven't gotten to really thrash it yet. A few hundred miles left. Plus, the dealer probably just put in base line gas since they wouldn't figure the base SS would need 91. I'll be very excited to see the actual experience. So far though, I'm very impressed.

What's the 0-60 time? Any have a general idea? For auto preforably.

Just keep in mind it can take 2-3 full tanks of 91+ octane before the engine will undo the changes it's made from running octane below 91. The engine doesn't really need 91+ octane, but it's designed to perform best on 91+.

I can't verify wether or not the used regular or 91...so I'm not sure. But another tank or so and we should be rollin' deep. haha!

Any 0-60 idea whereabouts?

This was on an axel dyno (Front tires off of vehicle)... They said to add about 14.32% to the numbers to have an accurate reading of HP and Torque for my car (because of an automatic, the dyno was designed for manuals)... So thats 180.73 Ftlbs and 177.54 HP at the crank!! Not to shabby... Hope this answers peoples questions about how much power the 2.4L has!

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c23/06CobaltSSSedan/cobalt.jpg

Went to Byron Dragway today and had several runs... Best run was a 16.03 @84.77 MPH (my car is an automatic)... I thought the numbers were actually really good for stock... I have the time slips so I will post those as soon as I get them scanned in... Surprisingly there were quite a few cars that had much higher 1/4 Mile times, I was happy (Hundayi Tiburon GT V6, Scion tC and a Ford Focus ZX3)

with the times for the 5spd to auto , your times arent to far off of the spread that the cavaliers had from 5spd to auto

nice power #s , how many miles on your car when you dyno'd ??
