motor just died!

i cant explain it, i was giving my cousin a ride to show him the new 2.7 pulley, and we spun it up to 7k shifted to 3rd and it was fine A/F ratio was a steady 11:1 then we got off the expressway and i goosed it 1 more time to 5k and all of a sudden the motor bucked and the engine died! but long story short, i tried to start it a few times and it just chugged and died. none of the guages would move the all stayed at zero. i opened the hood to look for oil and i looked under the car, nothing... so i got back in and tried 1 more time and she fired right up but theres a CEL, i havent checked it yet, but the car is running great again. did i just hit like a massive cat overtemp? the coolant is a steady 181-184. didnt loose any fluids and now the car runs fine anyone have any kinda clue what could have happened?

The CPS would cause a problem similar to the one you described. There is a TSB out for it. The CPS is the electronic version of the distributor, it tells the car when to fire your spark plugs.

The CPS commonly goes bad, causing the car to freak out and shut off like that. Bring it to your dealer to verify it, and they will replace it for free.

I've had mine die when i was driving normally. I pulled over to the side of the road, tried to start it, nothing, tried again, nothing. turned the key all the way forward, but didnt start it, cleared the trouble codes with my Interceptor gauge, nothing, did the same thing and cleared them, started and ran like it was brand new. havent had any problems since. and i was completely stock.

did the car smell like raw fuel when it shut down? or when it was just sitting there?
if it is, it's the cat over temp.

it dumps raw fuel when it happens.

It will still be stored in the history. It should still show up when the PCM is read, it just won't have an "SES" code next to it, instead it will say "mature" I believe.

Small correction, its a CKP sensor (crankshaft position) thats known to go bad, I think thats what you mean by a CPS. Its used to measure engine revolutions. CAMOUT (cam revolution) is used to tell the PCM when to fire the coil for ignition purposes.

Mine has just up and died too, once.

I was turning left through a lights onto a divided road. I was driving normal and after i made the turn the car died. I quickly turned the key to off and turned into a parking lot, coasting. Waited a minute or two and it started up just perfect. I have no idea what happened, but it has been running perfect since.

The same exact thing happened to mine. went to like 7k, got off it.. then to like 6k-ish, then it backfired a little and died...Took like 15 minutes to get running again. Two days later I was overboosting and found out my cat was clogged. The crank position sensor code was the only code it threw.

Sorry I mean CKS
