AeroForce Scan Gauge

Hey guys... AeroForce Tech now has a version of their scan gauge for the Cobalt SS. I got one a couple days ago, and am REALLY happy with it. It can scan a whole whack of engine parameters including simple things like engine RPM, coolant temp, vehicle speed, etc., but also more useful things like fuel trims, ignition timing, MAF rate, and even knock retard!!! They were actually able to get two more extremely useful parameters for the Cobalt SS too, namely the SC inlet pressure, and the temperature of the air charge AFTER the supercharger!

After driving with it for a couple days - I'm actually very surprised at how low the post-SC air temps are. At idle, they only seem to creep up to 50-70degF above the pre-SC air temp, and when you're moving (ie decent flow rate), the temps generally stay only 30degF above the pre-SC temp! Looks like the SC isn't heating the charge much at all!!

Here's some pics (excuse the quality, my cam was having a hard time focusing on it. i couldn't get any daytime pics cause the face of the gauge is so reflective that it kept throwing off my cam!)

My only real complaint with the gauge is that you have to find an ignition wire somewhere to tap into. Not a huge deal, but it does take away some of the "plug and play" appeal of it. All in all, all the parameters + the ability to scan for codes.... this thing is a steal for $220. Now I just need AutoMeter to make a pod for me to put it in.

that is really good considerign the operating temps of the blower i think eaton says it's 180...50-75 degrees lower is huge

Exactly. And in fact, it's COOLEST at WOT. The temps only get higher when you're idling (ie air flow rate is low), so there's not much air to absorb the heat. As soon as you start moving/increasing airflow, the temps start to drop quickly.

That's the problem. AutoMeter doesn't have any pods designed for the Cobalt yet.

They have some generic A-pillar pods, but the fit will suck if it's not made for the car. I'm waiting for either a cluster bezel that can fit two of them, or preferably a center dash pod, so long as the fit & finish is good.

You don't. I mean an ingnition POWER feed, as in a wire that's 0V in off, 12V in RUN. The gauge needs it to know when to turn on.

here is a video of the gauge in action on a redline, but he never flipped through the SC inlet option, is it the same gauge?

How did you power it? does it just hook up through the ignition and run from your battery or what?

I'm more interested in the OBD2 version, will it also work on the 05-06 Cobalts?

Heres one that I found:

I agree we need a pod to mount it with. I am happy to see they got all the variables working.

I had one of these in my GTP and it only plugged into the diagnostic port. Aeroforctech did a group buy for the Pontiac guys so if enough people were interested they will make a deal.

The SC inlet pressure is a new variable they just got working. It will be on all the RL/SS gauges. As to power, you need to wire it to a 12V ignition feed somewhere. There are several of them that you can use all underneath the IP on the driver side. I found the best one to use was the 12V ignition feed for the EPS controller. You could also wire it around to the electrical center behind the passenger side kick panel. Plenty of options there.

They're all OBDII. That's the same one as on their website... all the same product. If it weren't OBDII, it wouldn't work on our cars at all.

I just installed an Aeroforce gauge too. I opted to put it in place of the stock boost gauge for now. It was a <30 minute install. I had a switched 12 volt already run in for my piggy back from the ECU so I tapped into that.

I took it out for a spin tonight and I will get some pictures of the install tomorrow when it's light out.

So far very cool. I have boost in PSI and Intake Air Temp 2 (post supercharger) on display right now.
