pulley bolts stripped
pulley bolts stripped
Ok so here is the problem. The Bolts on the gm stage two pulley are stripped. Not to mention that the bolts are obviously over tourqed. Thanks to who ever owned the car before me. So now wtf do I do. Would one of those damaged screw removers work? And what is the best way to get new bolts for it? Please help me with this one guys. I am starting to get frustrated.
yea those bolts suck BIGTIME... rather.. the bit sucks too.
i bought a bolt extractor kit from SEARS..... (sockets with a spiral shape that gets more narrow as the bolt goes farther in the socket.
however, the socket walls were too big... (little bit) so i had to dremel part of my GM MPS away... worked like a dream)
they HAD to have torqued it to over 100 ft/lbs EASILY. Got a new set of bolts from a member on here. (not the shitty spiral phillips kind)

My dealer over-torqued my bolts, also, and after I gave up I made them fix their screw-up. Not sure exactly what they did, although it looks like they just drilled the bolts out, they left metal shavings everywhere in the engine bay. Luckily I got the new bolts from www.pulleyboys.com when I ordered the 2.8", only cost a few bucks extra.
IF room allows just drill the heads off using a bit a bit bigger than the threaded hole so the heads come off leaving some thread exposed once the pulley can come off.
Then the left over bolt threaded in the pully mounting hub should come out easy (no torque on them) and you will just need to get new bolts.
This is if only the heads are stripped from the driver and not the actual threads.
If the threads are stripped do same as above but then you will have to drill out the the bolt the best you can and retap.
