SilverCSS 11-03-2004, 05:07 AM ...running a nitrous setup on their Cobalt? Wet or dry? What size jets? And anything extra fancy? I'd be curious to see how popular an idea it'd be for forum members. I don't know how many RL owners have put nitrous systems on their engine, but with the setup..it seems like a possibly easy and cheap way to get some more ponies.
Eddie 11-03-2004, 04:42 PM not me i'm not a fan, but now that they have the nitrous intercooler spayer setup, im wondering if that would help out the integrated intercooler. and if so wonder how good it would do.
Voodoosoup 11-03-2004, 05:32 PM I know a fellow alero owner that's is gong to be going with alcohol injection on his supercharged 3.4
http://www.alkycontrol.com/
I don't know who he's looking to go through but there are a bunch of different vendors. Its' supposed to be very safe and reliable.
zstyle 11-05-2004, 08:17 PM Depends how hard the tuning bug bites me. I'm sure if I take it to the track I'll be tuning like mad.I can't even stand my car on topshift.com standing still and not gaining a 10th here or a 10th there....
DEI99662 01-17-2005, 01:46 PM Depends on the aftermarket that follows the release of this car. I doubt I will run nitrous right away. I will probably run NA for now.
i dont like n2o it ruins your engine.
2005blueSSColbalt 01-17-2005, 10:39 PM as soon as i get SS my NX kit will be on it. its a wet kit. never spray dry nitrous is only bad if ya dont know what you are doing and i will spray about a 50 shot i has it on my ss camaro with a 175 shot did fine and the car still runs good and i had it on my 2002 malibu ls and ran 13.9s@ 101mph and that was on a 100 shot and had 150 shot in the but ran slower cuz of traction issues here at hawaii track i get 2.4 60 ft on motor running 15.5 in the 1/4

Well I hate dragging up old topics but I’m new. :cssNET:
I would highly recommend using an alcohol injection kit on any force inducted car, this will help a lot to keep detonation from occurring with the right tuning.
Tooleman 03-06-2005, 02:49 PM NOS doesnt ruin engines, its using NOS on a untuned engine that ruins them..
Skiboarder311 03-23-2005, 08:15 PM as soon as i get SS my NX kit will be on it. its a wet kit. never spray dry nitrous is only bad if ya dont know what you are doing and i will spray about a 50 shot i has it on my ss camaro with a 175 shot did fine and the car still runs good and i had it on my 2002 malibu ls and ran 13.9s@ 101mph and that was on a 100 shot and had 150 shot in the but ran slower cuz of traction issues here at hawaii track i get 2.4 60 ft on motor running 15.5 in the 1/4
Yes, NOS is only bad if u don't know what ur doin
I ran a 75 Dry shot on my old car, and never had problems. and i was a freekin Button Junkie
I went thru a bottle of nitrous every 5-7 days :-D
Nitrous is VERY fun, but u just gotta know what to look for, and know ur car inside and out
I do plan to maybe run nitrous thru the SS, but not a horribly large shot.
I've arreddy done nitrous, time for sumpin new, I wanna play with boost :cssNET:
2005blueSSColbalt 03-24-2005, 01:52 AM well i have been messin with nitrous for about 8 years now and i have never hurt a motor with it ! The key to that is never used a dry kit always us a wet kit! and always no what to do with your timming and fuel. lol this is from someone who sprays a 175 shot on a ss Camaro and a 125 shot on a 2002 v6 malibu and had a 150 shot in it once b4 ;) and a 300 shot on a 72 ss nova!
2005blueSSColbalt 03-24-2005, 01:54 AM i would do a 30 to 50 shot no more and make sure u yous a WET kit! :)
mcz34man 03-24-2005, 01:43 PM just wondering is it true that you can run propane as a substitute for NOS in a diesel engine?
Skiboarder311 03-24-2005, 04:08 PM Yes u can run propane injection on diesel engines
they sell kits
But u can't buy a NOS kit and hook a propane tank UP to it LOL
EvenStar 03-25-2005, 03:12 AM Don't know if this will help, but we were talking about it down at the RL Forums.

zinner 04-15-2005, 10:12 PM I was thinking the NOS sportsman fogger setup that you can plumb right into the intake manifold. You couldn't slip it past the dealer however. I wonder if they would note a mod like that for your car/vin even if you were just in their for an oil change.
I guess I will have to wait and see what Chevy comes out with for performance parts.
iconz 04-17-2005, 06:34 AM I was thinking about doing something simple and just have it spray on the intercooler. about 10-20hp?
bballjamal 05-23-2005, 04:24 PM I run a NX wet 75shot of nitrous through my little 2.2ohv right now and wouldn't hesitate to install it on an SS! I wouldn't run it over 50 though! Basically I'd want it to cool off the charger since they're known for heat soak, plus I can get more boost out of the charger while its running cooler and get the shot of nitrous at the same time!
1 Use a wet kit
2.Get colder plugs (NGK Tr6 or Tr71x)
3.Install correctly
4.Use proper jetting advised by the online NX jetting calculator
5.Use Wide Open Throttle switch provided with kit
6.And don't over-use it and you should be fine!
zinner 06-14-2005, 05:14 PM Since the throttle is electronically controlled your going to need a system that can use the throttle position sensor. I think NX makes a gadget for 99 bux that lets you use the TPS voltage (http://www.nitrousexpress.com/Pages/TPS.htm)
I think that along with a window and fuel presure switch will be pretty safe.
I am looking at a "Fogger" system that will have the wet nozzle put into the intake manifold.
I gotta wait for a while before I drill into the intake manifold and void a good portion of my warrenty.
zinner 06-14-2005, 05:15 PM A dry 50 shot in front of the MAF might be an option as well. That why you don't have to spray after the supercharger.
brianfcp 06-21-2005, 09:17 AM i'd go with nitrous if it didnt void the engine warr.

Yeah it's gonna do that :)
You could do a dry shot and chances are you could remove it if you brought it in for services and no one would notice....
A wet system is going to require some more extensive mods like tapping a fuel source from the fuel rail.
Cam9730 06-21-2005, 02:05 PM A dry system isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. A lot of ricers run around with big dry shots and don't have the fuel system to back it up. If you do run a dry shot you have to have a good intank and inline fuel pump and properly sized injectors and tuning. But I for one would be worried about running nitrous through the compressors in the Supercharger.
wikkymaster 07-29-2005, 08:43 PM im thinkin about it....of course it wouldnt be until the warranty is up or close to it

they wouldnt know, unless you did some damage

I have a friend who just installed a Zex Progressive Shot System, works it's way up to around 55 HP. It has controls that will not allow it to run too lean or too rich and guarantees it's HP numbers. Not only will it cool the air allowing the supercharger to compress more and cooler air, there will be the HP gains from the actual n2o itself. Oh and he still has his warranty. He said something of how chevy has a few sponsors (GMPPerformance i think he mentioned) and that certain dealerships dont mind if you use certain aftermarket stuff, as longs at it fits within their parameters(their sponsors im geussing). If he blows his engine, the chevy dealership in town wont fix it..he has to go to one out of town. I also got a vid of him racing a srt4(stock) and walking him hard in 4th. Soon as i get the software i will post it. :-D oh and also a few vids of him at the tracK!
Hope that helps.
