suspension upgrades to get more power to the ground always helps. Lowering Springs, torque dampener, rear sway, Strut bar.

then intake, exaust, headers are always easier ups

nothing under warrenty... lol... you can prolly hang w/ him w/ a full exhaust, intake, 2.9 pulley, and a great driver mod that doesnt come w/ new cobalts.

what exhuast is good, i heard 3 inch on these cars does nothing....

will the 2.9 pully add that much ? will it void the warrenty ? will it work with the stage 2 kit ?

p.s. i can definitly drive, i had a fully built mkIII golf with a stge 3 custom turbo kit. Loads of mods, low 13 sec car on street tires...... fun fun.

A 2.9 would not be covered under the warranty because it is not a component of the stage 2. It would also be advisable to get tuned for the 2.9, so the stage 2 reflash would not be used if you go with a smaller pulley. However, with a 2.9 you won't be overspinning the blower, so you should be good to go if you go that route as long as you have a good tune.

Like the others were saying, you can also go with an intake, header, downpipe, high-flow cat, and cat-back exhaust. Also, traction mods like prothane motor mounts are good to do as well to prevent wheel-hop on launches.

And, yeah, a 3" exhaust will not really help until you reach much higher horsepower levels. Most people have found the GM Performance Exhausts to be sufficient.

Good luck with the new 'balt!

its not ideal to run the 2.9 on the stage 2 tune, but many people do it with no problems... if you go down to a 2.8 on the 42's then you definitely need a custom tune.

can you put the stage 3 pulley on the stage two set up ?

What is the difference ? Isnt the stage two 3.00 ? and if the stage 3 is 2.99, is that enough to make a difference if any at all >?

Do you need a different tune for the pulley ? Where can you get it, and if you put iton with a stage two set up, will it still be warrenty friendly ? Or do they not allow mix matching of stage kits......

Does exhuast really help out the car alot, like feelable power. I test drove a stage 2 new 07 ss today. And it was definitly WAY faster then the stock one. But i wonder how much better it would be with a good exhaust and that 2.99 pulley you speak of. But i was definitly inpressed with the car, first is almost usless, lol. The shift from first to second was good but not awesome, i felt the srt-4's was better. How can i improve that ?

I would just go down to a 2.9. That is the safest route to take. You'll feel a nice difference from the stage 2 pulley. If you have any problems with it you can swap back to the stage 2 pulley before you take it in to the dealership because they won't warranty it if you don't. You can get a 2.9 pulley from the member nherbst. Just look him up and private message him.

the stage 2 is not 3.00, its 79mm(3.01") and stage 3 is 76mm.

It's enough of a difference to add 8 HP and higher, faster boost (lower 1/4 ETs).

Would recommend an immediate install of the GMPP dual pass system:
http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...P1694C196.aspx

That will seriously help you add reliable power with any pulley size.

I'd recommend:
airbox mod(warranty friendly if using AEM or similar) or a CAI
Stage 2 with Stage 3 pulley and Dual-Pass intercooler mod
header/down-pipe/exhaust (GMPP?)

Then you should be smacking him around and still be stock looking enough to get help on the warranty side of things.

How do you and where do you install the intercooler end plate? Is it an easy install.

so can you run the stage 3 pulley on the stage two set up ? I saw that the stage 3 kit comes with a Unique PCM which includes a calibration for the smaller pulley.....

And the stage 2 set up is good for 245 hp, the stage 3 is only 248.... that only 3 hp more ( 260 if you use the 100 octane mode ) Where did you get 8 hp more ?

sorry just trying to figure this out.

i want a safe route witht he best hp number and best 1/4 miles ets..... im not going to buy a new car and burn the brand new warrenty up the minute i get it lol....

p.s. what does the end plate do ? Does it add any power ? is it easy to put on ?

you only void the warrenty if they prove that the part you installed caused the failure but in these cars the dealers like to call almost everything abuse so good luck with your "warrenty", plus you can change a lot of these parts fairly quickly if your that worried about taking it in w/ the parts on.

Well, Stage 2 is good for up to 240 in real world dynos that I've seen on here, and not 245, that's where I got the 8 HP from (although ppl seem comfortable quoting 245 nowadays). Also, GM did not tune the stage 3 PCM different for the pulley (the tune is for the injectors that Stages 1,2,3 use), in fact it is a stage 2 add-on and you can swap the PCM from stage 2 to Stage 3 and back again for normal driving. Stage 3 is basically a "track-friendly" PCM that includes adj rev limiter, no A/C and NOS-ready. So, in the end, Stage 3 PCM is useless for the street if you like air conditioning. Stage 2 has the same tune.

The endplate cycles coolant through the intercooler 2 times more than stock, cooling the supercharged air before it combusts, adding horsepower, preventing power loss due to heat soak and improving the reliability of your engine.

Also, when adding a Stage 3 pulley and endplate to a stage 2 car, you gain HP all through the RPM range, increasing your speed sooner.

If you go to a 2.8 or smaller pulley, you not only need an endplate mod, but most likely meth or h/e as well to avoid power loss due to extra heat. The more you compress the air the hotter it gets and the less power you make (unless you cool it, then you get the zoom).

Hope that helps. I'm going this route b/c I trust GM's stage kits, although others don't like the tune, I havn't heard of a Stage 2 engine blowing up, or a stage 3 for that matter. I've got Stage 2 now and will add the dual pass mod next....

My advice is to plan your mods around the combustion process.
Fuel: Stage 1 injectors and tune (come with stage 2 as well)
Air: Stage 3 pully on a stage 2 hub (from stage 2 kit) and dual-pass endplate to cool it down
Unfortunately the stage 1 kit does not include a hub to change pulleys, or else a stage 1 kit and stage 3 pulley would save some $$$. You could go aftermarket, but I like the idea of being able to slap on my stage 2 pulley whenever I want to go in for service.
