New Stock Intake Tube Replacement!!

Not sure where to put this but a SS/SC owner in my area informed me of this small problem.. Pop your hood and look just before the intake goes into the wheel well look right above the clamp. There is a screw on the frame and wouldn't you know the screw is starting to bury it's way into the intake tube. I put a beer bottle cap over the screw to protect it from digging into the plastic any further. It looks like it could poke a nice little hole in there. But I just wanted to inform everyone if you haven't already found that out.

It's true

I noticed that myself and cut it off, it is nothing but a ground for something.I only cut-off the bit that sticks up past the nut and that keeps it off the intake.A friend at work who also got his SS the same day as me looked under his hood when i told him and his was already cut.

The dealership did this to mine to, the rotating of the intake tube. When I got home tho, as added peace-of-mind, I used a rubber tip to cover the bolt. Sits perfect and is near invisible. It's a lil white rubber cap like thing. I dunno what it is technically, but does the job fine.

Mine is about to have a open hole in it from that screw . Hopefully it hold off till I get my new intake . If it breaks thru before , I'll just put a piece of electrical tape over it or sommmmething so the MAF doesnt freak out . For those that dont know , if ya got a hole there sucking in air after the mass air meter u will have some driveablity problems .

I wouldn't do that.... just think if that piece of tape gets sucked into your supercharger....

I do not have that problem. There is enough distance from the screw to not cause a problem. I thin rotaing the intake tube is the fix

If you have a hole just use some epoxy that stuff will chemically body with the plastic and fill the hole up nicely.

Tape would fall off in time as the adhesive broke down.

If it is the one just behind the light. Mine looks as if somebody file it down already. I can definitely see how it could cause a hole, if not taken care of right away

Has anyone else also noticed there are two different intake tubes also?

One is just a tube the other has a bracket on it that seems to attach to nothing.

Hacksaw

I just used a hacksaw and wacked that ****** off!. The excess nib sticking up does nothing but damage your intake, it WILL punch a hole in it. I do not know if rotating the intake tube is a long term fix, the tube will settle back to it's own "most comfortable" place which seems to be up angainst that bolt. Yes there are two different stock intakes from the factory. Some have an extra bracket, but i have not figured out any advantage of one over the other. It may come down to build date, or different suppliers.

Also

This has already been discussed in another thread but with so many posts i don't blame you for not seeing it. Since you missed that one you may not have seen this one about the little rod for your blow by-pass wearing through the vaccum line that runs near it. Check under your hood for that too, and if it is wear into it just re-route it so it doesn't touch.

I pointed this out to my dealer before I drove it off the lot and they shaved it off and even painted it.

So I read this thread and today checked out my intake and I am like ... no .. No . NO. I had some indentation from that very screw and it started to screw up the intake slightly and thats screwed up. Anyway I looked closer and noticed there is ANOTHER screw however, that one has a plastic covering on it that is squared off almost like they figured that was the screw that would cause more trouble. I am gonna take my car in tomorrow to see if they have any plastic coverings so I wont have to worry about it anymore

New Intake Tube Replacement

The dealership ordered a new intake tube piece coming from the supercharger that fixes this problem. It's now got a little bracket of some sort

The part number is: 22730075.
