Got walked by a stock SS/SC + RSX-s

Hey guys, i'm a little upset right now, so much so that i am considering selling the car. Heres my story.

Just raced a stock RSX Type S from a dig and from a roll. From a dig i spun a little bit but did an average launch. He gained half a car on me and steadily pulled and by 105mph he was at least 2 cars. We also raced from a 40mph-120mph and he WALKED ME.

Then i preceeded to race my buddies BONE STOCK Cobalt SS Supercharged. We did a 40mph roll. I even got a small jump on him and he demolished me. It was at least 3 cars.

The car sounds and supposedly runs fine. No check engine lights. They always pulled on me around 5500+ rpms. My blower whine was loud as crap and i was hitting perfectly fine boost, but it just seems my car ran out of power.

My mods are in my sig and it has been back to the dealership for over 2 months with severe overboosting issue a while back.

It is NOT the cat. The car is on its third cat. There is no knock, ping, or internal engine rattling.

Help! I'm thinking about just trading it in for a GTO!!!

You and your bud should switch cars and try again.

Thats a good idea man, but there was absolutely no driver error. Maybe from a dig, but 40mph roll race leaves little room for error. Shifted right at 6900rpm

yep, your right about that, 40 roll you just need to push the pedal.

Since you had that overboost issue maybe its the tune, GM tune is so generic and I doubt the dealership knows how to fine tune it for your setup.

Well, personally I think it would be a good call to switch drivers. If you do that, then you will be able to better rule out at least one major issue. But I would imagine with your mods, you should be able to crush a stock SS/SC even if you shift horribly. Just Stage 2 alone is a HUGE boost. There has to be something going on. Did you check all of the obvious stuff, such as filters? spark plugs? hoses? Belts? the like?

Have you gained weight recently? ;0

Edit. not the cat huh? could have my problem and have a broken rocker arm. no codes no nothing for over a year just a car that would fall on its face. Again do the boost by pass mod and see what kinda boost your hitting with out the boost cut. if its going all up in 17 and up PSI. Your rocker arm/s may be done done on your exhaust side. Theres 5 other cobalts had the same thing. check it out and get back to me. Make sure you start from a 40 punch and at least finish out 3rd gear to get some results. Search my name and see the threads i made to find out more info.

I think your plugs may be crap. Double platinum auto lites??? There is your problem. Go for some NGK 1 step colder or stock @ like .38.

Thanks for the help guys, lemme address a few of your suggestions.

1) Not the plugs. Its on its third set of plugs because a while back i was having serious intake and sputtering problems and i thought it was spark blowout. Currently it has double platinum autolites gapped .040

2) Brand new air filter, oil filter, and oil in the car. Maybe 500 miles since my last oil change.

3) A little bit of weird info in case this can help; After i got the car back and had the overboosting issue fixed a while ago. Everything was fine until i took into higher rpms repeatedly. The car would start sputtering and losing power. The car sounded literally like it was about to explode.

But get this, i removed the Injen intake and put the stock airbox back on with just a k&n filter, and the problem was gone! However if i tried the airbox mod with (even with the crappy stock air filter) the problem would return!!!

Is this evidence of internal failure? What test can be done to determine if a rocker arm or whatever has failed?

bump, getting desperate

....

Definately not gonna dump anymore money into this car until i figure out why i cant even keep up with bone stock cars. I'm beginning to think it may be a fuel issue. Power seems to drop off in the upper rpms.

Thats exactly what i was considering actually. Theres an 04 GTO 6spd with 30K miles on it for like 19K at a local dealership. I owe about 14700 on my car and it has 21K miles on it. So i'm wondering what they would give me trade in.

Only obstacle is my parents. They think my crappy performing cobalt is "plenty fast enough" and shoot down any of my plans at getting something that actually runs like its suppose to.

Don't get me wrong, i love my car, but dang it if i'm going to pay 350 bucks a month for a performance car that doesn't perform.

I am going to schedule an appoint at my dealership on monday, i will keep ya'll updated with my progress.

Well....the GTO has some problems too, just warning you so you don't think there won't be any problems at all.

Understood but i doubt it can have as many problems as my car did. If a compression test and new fuel filter don't solve the problem, i am considering getting it dynotested and tuned to see what the IDC's and AFR are looking like.

I'm hitting perfectly fine levels of boost but just nowhere near the power i use to have. So i'm thinking it may be a fuel issue.
