Off the line and from a roll against my stock Z06 vs stage 2 with exhaust and CAI
07 Cobalt with stage 2 with GMPP exhaust, honed/extruded exhaust manifold and Fujita CAI. son driving
03 stock Z06 with Nitto road race tires (not drag radials). me driving
First bout was from a 25 or so mph roll both of us in 1st. I instantly hooked and jumped 3 cars on him and I hit 2nd, hooked and was gone. He said he was at too high rpm in 1st and wanted to go from a slower roll in 1st.... next was a 1st gear roll from 10-15 mph. We both hooked good and I jumped a couple cars right away and shut it down after hitting 2nd and walking away.
Off the line was next..... I knew he would take me off the line on a city street cause of traction problems even with my Nittos but I also knew I had to try and come off the line hard on him which obviously didnt work this time around and he did alot better than I expected with his traction control vs mine as I always end up spinning hard off the line. We both launched around 2K or there abouts and he took off like a bat out of hell in the Balt taking an instant 2-3 cars on me. I spun badly all the way thru first hazing the tires watching him pull away from me by at least 4 cars eventually. I hit second and spun quite a bit again and almost went sideways into the curb again according to his friend on a bike behind us. When I eventually hooked up I started reeling him in quite fast but had to shut it down before 3rd gear as we ran out of room.
I was very impressed with the Cobalts street performance against my Z off the line and this is what counts for the city stop light to stop light driving and messing around.
With a 1.5 second difference or so 1/4 mile time, its not till end of 2nd till the Z06 reels him with a off the line start with limited traction for a Z06 and and will eventually pass him in top of 2nd or 3rd depending on available traction. That Balt is a bat out of hell off the line in 1st and 2nd. From a witness's standpoint behind us he blew me away off the line and I will be the first to admit he did just that.
Hell of a time not to have the video camera mounted on my harness bar!

I wish I was a balt out of hell from the line. I'm good in second and third. Trapping @ 108 should be a 12 second car for me right? Well I'm mid 13s....damn 60 foot times. Thanks for sharing that with us. Big brother Vettes should look out for little brother balts.
Yes spinning like a **** thats for sure, but thats the way it goes when you lose a race its usually traction problems which I have plenty of problems with at low mph in 1st and 2nd and off the line UNLESS the surface os good and the air temps between 65-80 degrees. Anything other than that and traction is a problem altho I can still easily run 12.50's even with spinning 1st and some of 2nd.
As my son said..."dad I beat ya, whats the problem"... LOL Its all fun, I dont care if I win or lose...
Z06's arent made for drag racing altho everyone I know that has a Z06 drag races them and at the track they nail decent 60 footers, but on the street it can be a handfull getting off the line cleanly. My 03 is a road race car and im not much into off the line hooking up performance with it and if im gonna race someone ill take em to the twisties and eat em alive road racing.
My son and I have many toys we play around with and these 2 certainly arent even close to being the quickest nor fastest that we own but they are fun to mess around in.

Anyway, I just raced him off the line for the helluva it fully expecting to be handled off the line by the Balt, but we are gonna go over to a different road with much better traction this weekend so I can show him how he can also be blown away off the line..
Its a road race car and thats how its set up altho I do like going from a 25 mph roll all the way up to 175 or so straight line....
I bet you'll never see another Vette owner openly admitting that he got roasted by a Cobalt on the street
Too funny. I guess it's easier when it's not some punk kid but your own flesh and blood.
