2.4 SS...just need a bit of help
Hey guys...I just picked up my 07 Cobalt SS w/2.4L a few days ago. I'm not looking to do all kinds of tuning on it or doing injectors, exhaust, etc...I just need some advice. I WOULD like to put an AEM cai on it for a smidge more power and different sound. I am just a bit concerned about other posts on here saying how that action might trigger a CEL because of too much airflow. If that should happen, can anyone confirm whether that problem would go away on it's own or what about if I reset the battery or just use an OBDII scanner and reset the code myself. Would that help?? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone knows of any other bolt on's that wouldn't cause problems with the computer, please let me know. Thanks !! p.s. I would also appreciate a recommendation for a place to buy that AEM cai on the net.

2.All boltons such as INTAKE, HEADER, DOWPIPE AND EXHAUST will only throw a code if installed incorrectly and by install i mean the installation of the sensor ....torque it down right and make sure you dont install it backwards
3. As for a place to buy your intake use cobaltperformanceparts.com or
Cobalt-addiction.com
Well, prior to what Claudio said, it really all depends. I have the AEM cai on my 2.4SS, and back when I had just the intake, my CEL would pop on every now and then, but it really depended on the weather typically. It wanted to come on briefly, usually during rainy days and days with lots of moisture in the air. But it never stayed on for long, and it dosent effect your performance even if it is on.
As far as an exhaust, I have a CA header, CA 2.5" de-cat downpipe and an ARK N2 cat-back. The exhaust is installed 100% correctly, but once again prior to what Claudio said, my CEL is on b/c of the de-cat downpipe. Having a lack of cat WILL throw a CEL b/c the rear O2 sensor will be sensing way too much exhaust backpressure. But tuning from HP Tuners or Vector will correct that, as the tuning programs can shut off the rear O2 sensor entirely.
For injectors, most 2.4 guys run the stock SS/SC #34 injectors (you will need a specific wiring harness to run these however), but tuning is a MUST if you are to run these.
Good luck, and if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me!

WhiteSSBalt, anytime you get a CEL with just an intake change, it is due to improper tube sizing or something else, like a bend too near the MAF, that thows off the MAF sensor and the ECMs logic to make sure it's working right. For example, say the tube diameter is larger.... The same amount of air under any condition will have a lower velocity. The MAF will sense less air than it should see. The ECM doesn't like that. Bingo! CEL!
The 2nd O2 sensor is just there to check if the cat is working right. No cat: Not right! Bingo! CEL! BTW, you really should be environmentally responsible and run one. There is very little loss and it's negligible with a high flow cat. All the tuning does is turn off the light for that.
Injectors... You guys need to get away from the "bigger is better" or thinking that "I have SC injectors" sounds cool. With mild mods, they are absolutely NOT needed and even if tuned properly, will result in NO gain.

lol, well the de-cat version was $50 cheaper, and $50 for 1-2hp at most.........why not? Plus, I like the rasp it gives the exhaust. I know some people HATE the rasp with a passion, but i feel it really adds an aggressive note to the exhaust. Sorry.......lol
I won't run the SS/SC injectors if you don't think they are neccesary.......i've heard mixed things though. Jackalope said the injectors did in fact add some extra power when tuned properly, and i've heard many others say the same thing. Even the legendary Doc reccomend the SS/SC #34 injectors to me, and he's like a tuning legend among us Cobalters. Hmmmm....
Injectors won't add any hp on their own. The only reason they are needed is if the extra fuel is needed. Even then they are just their to support the greater flow of fuel, the gain is felt from the tuning. The injectors them selves do nothing as far as adding hp.
