Driver seat change?

I have an '07 Cobalt SS/SC with the standard SS Leather seats. The seats are great for short distances (trips no longer than 45 minutes or so), however on longer trips it begins to bother my back. My problem is with the seat back, the buttom cushion is perfect, no problems.

I went back to the dealership to see if they could do something about them. While I was waiting on my salesman I sat in a non-SS cobalt with cloth seats. They were much softer and felt better (at least on the back). So I asked the dealership if they could get me some cloth seats, **long story deleted here** point is they can not and if they could it would run roughly $800-$1200.

So I found some cloth seats on ebay and got them for a winning bid of $51 + freight of $150. I should have them sometime this week or early next week hopefully. Now my question is this:

I really only want to swap out the back of the seat but I still want the leather look. Is it possible to take the back off of the driver seat, then remove the leather from the current seat and put it on the new cloth seat? Doing this I would loose the heated seating on the drivers side, but I did not want that feature anyway. ((i am making an assumption that it is the foam, not the leather, that makes the leather seats so stiff))

Before I won the seats on eBay I did think about just taking my car to an uphosterly shop and having them do it, but this is my only car and I really can not be w/o it for as long as they would have needed. If I find that the cloth seats I won are not soft enough either, well I can just drop them off and come pick them up later .

((and yes, I am old, so dont give me a hard time about that )).

Hey if can't do what you want and just end up switching out the leather seat for the cloth seat....

I'll be happy to take that leather SS seat off your hands. (for a price of course)

Yeah I dont see why not, I would have no use for them if this is not successful.
