Shaky Shaky...
Shaky Shaky...
I was heading to work this morning when I started to feel some excessive vibration through the wheel and pedals. I didn't think much about it at first but then it started to get worse, so I decided to get off the interstate and check it out. When I pressed the brakes to slow down on the exit ramp it got extremely shaky. Kinda felt more like rally racing in a Subie than driving on a paved road, but anyway, after I slowed down to about 45 or 50 it stopped. I pulled over and checked the tires and they seemed to be ok. Since that's all I know how to check, I just got back in and started driving again and it's been fine ever since then. Anyone have any idea what could have been happening?
I don't know how to check any of those, but I've got to get it inspected before the end of this month, so I'll get the dealership to check it out while they're inspecting it. I wouldn't have posted anything on here but I'm impatient and wanted to see what some people thought about it. With my work schedule it's hard to tell when I'll be able to make it to the dealership.
The car's only got about 16k miles on it and I don't recall ever having anything done with the brakes.

ok a couple a months i swerved outta control and stopped on the curb which just had dirt. and my car had the same effect goin on. around 45-50 it started vibrating like crazy. i got it checked out and first thing i was told is that the rim could have bent or a radial on the tires snapped and now there's a bump on the tire. but all i had was just dirt between the tire and rim that set the balance of the tire off. idk if you went through mud or something but thats what happened to me.
same thing happened to me, about all this "e-brake stuff" its all wrong. when your car shakes at braking above 45-50 mph, it usually means warped/burned rotors, my car has it too, usually its from light to medium braking for a long period of time (10 seconds+) will make your rotors really really hot then when you take the brake off they warp because they are so hot and the air around them is so cold. i doubt it can lead to serious problems, just shaky at braking above 50 mph. ive gotten used to it by learning how to downshift (engine braking)
Rotors are definately a problem. Tires another possibility; Check for broken radial belt. Both rotors and belt problem can change with temperature. Rotor problem may be more noticable after a few harder stops when the rotor heats up.
Tire Solution: Ignore the vibration or Replace. Another possibility is to pretend that you are coming back from a deep space mission re-entering the atmosphere and trying your best to hold the ship together.
Rotor Solution: Replace with aftermarket rotors. Cost to have the originals re-surfaced may come close to replacing. My dealer wanted $100 to remove, cut the rotors, and re-install. High quality aftermarket rotors are $125 and I'll put them on myself.
Use the old rotors to play frisbee. Hell of a workout.
