Need wide tires on stock 17's, suggestions?

My tires are bald now and i want some good treadwear tires but with good grip for the drag strip and daily driving. Whats the best widest tire i can go with on stock 17's?

I'm not sure what the wides tire you can go with on the 2.4 fender/wheele's is. That being said 225/45/17's would probably clear, they are .4 inches shorter in overall diameter (25" instead of 25.4"). In a 225/45/17 you can get the BFG G-Force T/A KDW 2. Many people seem to be very happy with these tires, I have no personal experience with them though.

Spec sheet for the KDW2 shows the difference in size between stock and the wider tire.

Listing of 225/45/17's on tire rack here.

anyone know the treadwear rating on those? id like to get a good long while with them. my stock pirellis didnt last longer than 7000 miles. What kinda miles are people getting on these tires, the reviews i read are saying they have horrible tread life.

I got 20k out of the stock Pirellis. I just picked up the Falken FK 452 in a 225/45/18. Im sure they make a 225/45. Much better than the stock ones and are rated 300 AA A. 135/tire for that size at discounttiredirect.com. Couldn't find a cheaper price.

He speaks the truth. Although I don't think it will be hard to find a tire that will grip more than the stock ones and last longer.

Yup the softer the tire the better the grib and worse life. The harder the tire gets the worse grip gets the better life it gets.

BTW look for a 225/50/17, gives a lil more sidewall to help at the strip and is closer to the stock height, will ride better too.

225 should be the widest i can go then?

i just want a tire that meets in the middle of performance and durability.

I know the SS/SC's can go 235 wide w/o modification on the stock wheeles. The SS/NA comes with 7" wide wheeles IIRC, so you should be able to fit a 235 wide as well if you want the extra width. I was just double checking, it seems a 235/50 can go on a 7" wheel, whereas a 235/45 can't supposedly. I would still say you can do a 235/45 if you want though, seeing as how I'v mounted 245/45/17's on a 7" wide wheel at work before....
