SS Wing question

are the bolt patterns on all the cobalt spoiler universal? i noticed that the way the trunk is made it has indentations just for the spoiler. if so, i think i may see the rksport 3piece in my ss's future.

The 3 piece is different, you have to redrill some holes and the edges are held on by double sided tape.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have an SS and I hate the big park bench wing. I want to buy a wing pre painted and that will fit in the same holes as the original spoiler. Are there any companys or wings that make this that match to the stock spoiler bolt points? Is it fairly easy to remove and put on a new spoiler?

From what I've heard the stock SS wing is really taped to the trunk well, and if you're not patient/careful you will damage your trunk. I was gonna take my wing off until people started tell how much work it was. That being said it can be done, just be gentle.

I dont know of any aftermarket spoilers that mount to the stock holes.

The ss wing can be swapped for the smaller factory style by using the stock holes.

However the Rkpsort wing requires you to drill more holes. The rk spoiler covers the bottom two holes, but the top two need to be patched.

As DomesticDemon said, the smaller coupe spoiler will fit in the holes used for the SS wing. The only thing that you have to watch out for is the tape, since the footprint of the wing is larger than the spoiler, you have to clean where the tape was so that you can't see any marks when the spoiler is put on. I just used a tiny bit of goo-gone and it cleaned right up.

isn't it a functional wing, why would u want to take it off? They use the same wing in the gm cobalt track car.

because i don't like how it impairs my vision, nor do i really care for the overall look of it. i was very close to getting a redline just because of the wing but i didn't like the center mounted guages on the redline.

U weren't going to buy a car b/c of the wing on the cobalt? WTF do you even like your car, I think if U don't like they way it looks you should take your 25 grand elsewhere. Too bad the one going to be pulling away from you in a race after 100 is going to be me and not you.
Maybe then you will put the wing on. Oh by the way do me 1 favor run your car to its max with the stock wing, then without the stock wing tell me what happens.

yeah i was contemplating removing the wing and putting the rksport on there, but after a few runs near top end, i think it's gonna stay on there cause the car definitely doesn't like to slide around like the '93 vette me and a friend had up over 150. a few years back

no i said at around 150mph i think my car handles better with the stock wing, not all around.

if you got an ss, why don't you run up to 145 or whatever and then remove the wing and do it again. tell me how loose the car feels when you get back

He's right, i've taken it off and driven down the highway. The rear downforce provided by the OEM is essential even though we have a front wheel drive car.

So I have to leave that hugenormous monstricity on. I was hoping to get a CF deklid and leav it off. Maybe the concept 272 wing instead. if they ever make one that looks like it

My car has absolutely no problems at high speeds, stable as can be. The stock wing looks retarded plain and simple!

I plan on autocrossing this car alot, but rarely will I brake over 100+ mph speeds. I have taken this car over 120 with the RK wing and it tracks just as well as with the stock wing. Although mine is lighter and looks like it belongs on the car, the stock one look like every other teen kid who just bolts a wing on to make it look fast. The overall style of the stock wing isn't to bad, but from the back it's WAY to narrow, needs to be wider across the trunk that's why i looks goofy. And from the side angle it in NO WAY follows the body lines.

Everyone has a preference. But trust me at high speeds there was no noticable difference with my stock spoiler versus the rk unit.

to answer your question about do i like the way my car looks....of course, or i wouldn't have picked it up. i like the way the saturn ion looks too though and i drove both of them. and the large style wing on the saturn is optional but i didn't care for the center mounted guages as i said and i also like the placement of the boost guage better. as far as wing goes....truthfully, how often will i go over 100 in my car? i can tell you that it won't happen very often at all. every once in awhile i like to open her up but within moderation. hell, i had a 98V6 firebird with 9lbs of boost on it and i never took it over 120. but as i said the wing does block my vision and that's not a good thing. in fact, i don't know if anyone noticed but the wing is at the perfect level where you can't see a cop cars lights. i could always rely on the side view mirrors but i'm just used to using my rear view as well.

actually... you can see underneath the SS spoiler just fine, the LS/LT spoilers sit right in the way.
