tire blow out!

So I was driving on the interstate today and my tire blows out. doing the speed limit (65). no damage to the car or anything, handled it good. i was with two of my buddies and we get out and the whole tire is gone, except the sidewall. just tryin to figure out what coulda caused this. it was a practically brand new tire. my dad said in 40 years he never saw anything like that, for the whole thing to be gone. this type of thing happen to anybody else? thanks.

the wheel was fine, thank god considering they are brand new too. sidewall must have protected it. just a crazy situation i guess.

While I've never had a tire blowout on me its not as hard as you might think. If you'd run over something (ie: nail, sharp metal, ect) and the tire pressure was down, it'd have to be like 10-15 PSI, then its not hard to imagine a blowout at 65 especially with 2 other people in the car. When I picked up my car one of the tires had a hole right on the corner of the sidewall, was feeling just a *little* different on the highway doing tight swerves on the way home (I auto x as well, so I generally have a good idea of how a car reacts) got home and checked and it was at 15 PSI. Asked the dealer and their response was "O, its still leaking? Well you can get a new tire and we'll reimburse you."

Glad your ok, hope you have road hazard or something to cover the tire.
