Drag strip in San Diego

Does anyone know of a drag strip in San Diego? I am getting out of the army at the end of this year and am moving out there with my girlfriend. Thanks for the help.

Pomona is closed to regular street racing events. Palmdale's last day will be the end of July then the doors close forever and it gets bulldozed like Carlsbad. Fontana raceway has a quarter mile and last time I heard anyone going out there for a street event they got about 2-3 runs after being there all day. Gets crowded. Then you have Famoso up by Bakersfield if you don't mind the four hour drive. Beyond that you have to go to another state (Speedworld or Firebird in Phoenix, AZ or LVMS in Las Vegas, NV) or drive up north to Sacramento...which is the best track in the area because it is at about 50' above sea level.

They are supposed to be building a new track out in the desert in either San Bernadino county or San Diego County...not sure exactly where it is supposed to be but it's been tied up in so much red tape it's one of those "I'll believe it when I see it built" kind of deals.

Getting thinner and thinner out here 1/4 track wise. Number of 1/8th milers. Qualcom, Irwindale, Perris...but 1/4s are drying up.

Oh, and one more thing, LACR is the track at Palmdale that's closing this month. Palmdale and LACR are one in the same.

So basically you are saying that I won't be doing to much racing there in SD.

Well, at least not at the track...unless you like 1/8th mile.

There are rumors that the Brotherhood Raceway out at Terminal Island in Long Beach is trying to reopen. That was a nice 1/4 mile track that was cheep. Fontana has test and tune days but they are $100 per day...not really cost effective but you get more than a couple runs in. Famoso isn't bad either except for the heat and the drive. But it is lower than LACR and Fontana at 600 feet so it is the faster track around here anyway.

But yea, you'd think that with the local governments wanting to get street racers off the street they'd work harder with local tracks to keep them open and operating street legal drag nights on a weekly basis...but not so much.
