you should be using premium only. 91 at LEAST, preferably 93. you should never have been using regular in your ss/sc.

Def. run at least 91 but I would run 93 or 94 if it is available. I always run 93 in mine. I used to run 94 from Sunoco but they got rid of it.

yea, stop using regular asap. a new engine will cost much more than the extra 20 cents per gallon. (or whatever it is by you)

How the hell do you buy a S/C car, and not know it takes 91+?

Unbelievable.

well they dealership told me this takes regular gas....and being that i was 19 when i got the car and knew nothing about superchargers or cars that much in generally at the time i kinda assumed that regular gas was ok, that's why i asked on here about stage 2 since i'm getting that upgrade

Stock, the engine needs 91 to run at full power, but can be run on 87 as long as you never get on it. However, once you install Stage 2, 91 is the lowest you should ever put into it, with 93~94 being your target.

Stock, premium is officially "recommended", but not required by any means. Car will run fine, and it's not going to blow up if you get on it. You can / will notice a reduction in power, but no extra wear will happen.

Stage II does call for 91 minimum, though.

Hell, a Stage 2 will show little blips of knock with 91 octane. I shutter to see what would happen if you ran it on 87 and ripped it WOT through the gears.

The GMPP catalog states that the Stage 2 kit requires 93 octane be used.

I didn't know the SS/SC need 91 or better until I saw it on here a while back I had been putting 89 and didn't have any problems. Theres alot the dealerships don't know about the SS/SC I asked them about Stage 2 in the service department and they looked at me like what the hell are you talking about. One service guy told me it already comes with Stage 2 thats why its comes stock 205 hp. The first time I got my oil changed they put normal oil in it and I didn't catch it until I went to pay and the bill it was only $26. I asked them Synthetic Oil here is cheap am I getting a discount then they were like Ahhh what oil is suppose to go in your car. Just cause they were the uniform doesn't mean they know what their doing so a shout out to anyone on here in San Antonio don't get your Cobalt serviced at FREEDOM CHEVROLET !

Because you are buying a car with a high performance engine man.

Not to jump on your ass any further.

Yes your CObalt SS will run on 87 or 89 octane just fine tooling around and not going positive on manifold pressure. The low compression pistons will allow for you to get away with such. Though once you start getting smaller pulleys then you will run into trouble. Thats' introducing more boost from idle to redline.

You might be able to run your car with 87 with stage2 + mods on your car, would I recommend this? Hell no. Your asking for a piston to make like a stop sign in Arkansas. The ECU will detect the pre-detonation and will retard the timing accordingly. But it can only go so far.

Either way, run the best you can get ahold of for your SS SC man. And if you can't get better than 91. Look into buying octane booster for every fill-up. Those few extra points will be some nice insurance against you having to use a Aveo for a week or so whiel the dealer tries to weasel it's way out of replacing the motor.

My dealer told me it was running on a full tank of E85 when I bought it... Until I explained to him that there are no E85 dealers in NJ and that the car was not designed to run on E85... He looked at me like a deer in the headlights and changed the subject...
