i am about to have my 2.7 and hptuners installed and i have heard it's way different with hptuners, hptuners gives more hp than chevy tunes... i wouldnt recommend 2.8 with just a stage II tune.

I have to agree. I think a 2.9 is best. Just like animlous or whatever said. Tons of info on the 2.8, some say its bad, others say its fine. Up to you if you want to take the chance.

2.8 on stage two is a bad idea. IDC% gets over 90% over 6000 or so. 2.9 will stay just under 90% at 6500 it is much safer. But really you should just get a 2.7 and 60#s

2.9 really won't even gain you that much.

well for me the stock stage 2 pully gives me 16 - 17psi....... i'm at sea level...... and my car still runs rich as hell... so i'm throwing the 2.85 on and see what happens....... if i see way to much boost its coming off.

2.8 will run like crap. Anything less than the stage 2 pulley creates too much heat soak on the SC. Even the 76mm stage 3 pulley needs the dual end-plate to increase cooling. If you look on the stage 3 instructions, it's right on there. So if you want to run more boost, you better step up to a better cooling system for your SC. Heat exchanger!!!

odd.
my 2.8 car runs just fine. runs a hell of a lot stronger then any 3.0 pulley sized car in town.

then again, i have other precautions that people don't take into mind.

yes a 2.8 will drop the idc due to it leaning the engine out.

this can be good, this could be bad.
every car with a gm tune knocks. get used to it. it gets a lot worse with the 2.8
i could not run over 17 degrees of timing. with a 3.0 i could run a grandual increase to 25 degrees of timing.

the highest my temps after the blower get is 135, and that takes 3 back to back runs at the track to do that.
i do not have any cooling mods aside from water injection, and distilled water in the after cooler resivior.

shawn, keep in mind that the 05-06 cars on idc is right, the 07 is not.

matts car is runnin 85% on a 2.85. egt's are hitting the highest of 1300 in a downpipe. so factor in about another 150 degrees. it's happy needless to say.

as far as a stock stage 2 tune with a 2.8
i don't see it as a good idea, period. i can show you a log run from it that would make you cry.

Wow, I have the stage two pulley and I see intake temps around 155 just cruiseing around town. If I beat on the car a little it ranges from 160-170, and I know the car is pulling timeing. My next mod is going to be the CA heat exchanger and Dual Pass plate, but if the water injection is helping you that much I may consider that one next. You also have to keep in mind I live in Las Vegas where the temps are at 120 during the day and rarely drop below 100 at night this time of year. What do you think I should get next considering the enviroment I am in?

If you get a tune with it you should be fine. The smaller pulley will produce more heat and raise your IAT2 temps. Once your Iat2 get above 158 or so your car will pull more timing and thus you really won't gain any power without the tune.
