My 1st auto cross
My 1st auto cross
i went to my 1st auto cross event yesterday at riverhead raceway
and i have to say it was one of the funest things iv everdone there werent to many cars there about 40 or so. most of them were subaru sti's and wrx's, there were a few 240sx's and one 5.7L gto and a C5 corvette that was worked to hell.
that course itself was a beginner course well thats what some of the more experienced guys were saying. we got a total of 7 runs and my best time was a 45.819 (my camera died so no vidio of that run) but i do have vidio of my 1st 3runs best time was a 46.464.
i was running just a little slower then the GTO that was there his best time was 45.567 i was a little dissapointed bc i always thought a balt could kill a gto in the corners. but i was putting down better times then all but 2 of the subarus. and yea the whole thing was just alota fun the best times of the day were done by a turbo miata with raceing slicks and a evo 8 with hoosiers on the front which were lighting up out or every corner.they both ran 40.xxx.
now i got a few questions i noticed everyone was messing with there air pressure i kno air pressure makes a difference but how do you kno to go up or down psi wise and also my almost bald pirellis were crying threw every corner and i am going to put a new set on probly next week bc theres nothing left i am also gonna try and pick up a set of 17s and make them my autocross rims. what tires do you suggest i go with.
im uploading pics and vids now so i should have them pretty soon

changing your pressures is a good way if not the only way to tune a stock car, I normally put about 40-43 PSI in the front and 30-35 in the rear. There are two schools of thought though, some people use more in the rear so in my case it would be 40 in the front and maybe 45 in the rear but I like going the oppisite way with less in the rear. have a different perssure in the rear will help you control the rear end of your car(all of what I know is for front drive cars) having similar pressure as the front seems to keep it in line with the front but when you start to change the rear to lower setting the rear end will start to rotate around corners.
Yesterday on my Hoosiers I started the day with 44psi in the front and about 24-26 in the rear, the car rotated like crazy but I figured I would give it a few more runs before I would change anything and I ended up not changing anything for the rest of the day.
A good way to find your pressure is to take white shoe polish and dab it in a few spots around the edge of your tire right at the shoulder, if you drive the car and it is completly wiped off you need more and then the oppisite is if there isn't anything missing you may have too much pressure and could end up having understeer as a bigger problem.
I would suggest just keeping your pressure(at the events) around 40-42psi all around and try to get used to the car and driving in that situation.
