Stage 2 Reflash
how much of a differnece is there in the hptuners custom dyno tune and the gm stage 2 tune?
well, if HPtuners is $500 and the reflash is cheaper, then I know which route I would like to go right now. I plan on getting HPtuners, but my friend is going in on it with me.
depends on where you live, elevation, temperature.. but to answer the question, I've heard as much as 15whp more from a custom tune. BUT, this is all info coming from a guy (me) who didn't get stage 2.. so take it with a grain of salt, cause it's just what I've heard on here.

a reflash is a reprogramming of your car's computer. When you install mods on your car, like pulleys, injectors, etc. you need to reprogram the computer so 1) the car knows you are running different parts other than stock, and 2) so your motor can use the mods to their potential. If you slapped on a smaller pulley and bigger injectors on a stock car without reflashing it, it would run, but it would run like crap, and you wouldn't be getting max power out of the new setup. It would be like installing a new, modern computer game on a windows 2000 machine. It MIGHT work, but it would run like ass until you upgraded the software to XP
I don't know if there is a way to just get the reflash from GM. You need the code that comes with the stage 1 or stage 2 kit. And as has been stated... the Stage 2 tune isn't the greatest out there... it works, and is safe, but it could stand to be better.
Try to find someone local who has HP Tuners and get them to flash you. Try some other chevy forums... HP tuners works on more than one model of car... you just need the credits.
