How to remove Brake Dust "Stains"

Help, on the spokes of my SS/NA's wheels there are yellow stains that no amount of elbow greese can remove.

Any tricks to get this removed?

You will need something strong, most likely some form of wheel acid. I would take it to the dealer and find out if they can do an acid wash on your rims. Chances are they can, they do a lot of reconditioning of rental cars where the wheels are just covered in brake dust.

wheel cleaner or wheel acid. Then use steel wool to take it off. I do car detailing for a job.

I do not doubt your ability as a car detailer but isnt steel wool just a tad too abrasive on the wheels?

some may laugh, but i've used these mr. clean eraser things meant for cleaning your cars rims, and they worked extremely well, much better than i expected. i bought a few boxes at wal-mart last year, but the one time i've actually seen them now was at a stop & shop, no one else seems to carry them. if you can find a box or 2, try 'em.

on chrome, alloy, or whatever rims... no as long as you use a degreaser or wheel cleaner it works awwwwesome! Just don't use steel wool alone. Again.... Im sure you can get harsh steel wool but the stuff we use is mediumish courseness so it works great.... we do alot of offlease vehicles so you can imagine how bad people let it go in three years.

I would like to know how to clean the brake dust from my SS/SC wheels. I usually use a dry cloth. Someone mentioned wheelcleaner, what kind?

I'd use some Meguiar's Wheel Brightener. I hear it's some pretty potent stuff. So potent in fact, its recommended you use a mask or respirator and gloves while using it, due to its caustic nature. But it supposedly eats through the brake dust like no other.

Here is the Meg's Wheel Brightener in action. Props to fishbonezken over at Autopia for the pictures. I'll post a link to the original thread over there below.

Also, if your looking for something a little milder, try P21s Wheel Cleaning Gel, it may not work as well, but its a lot safer of a product to work with.
