Looked at another type of car today...

Ok, so I kidna came to the conclusion that I will not be buying a forced induction car for my first car. The fact that I will be 19 when I buy one, and insurance will RAPE the **** outta me with one.

So I went to a Honda dealer today to look at a new Honda Civic Si.

I must say, I WAS IMPRESSED! Don't get mad at me for having this new thread, but I just wanted to let ya'll know that Honda has got it right, the quality of the car was superb. I did not get a chance to test drive it because it was their only one there, in between a lot of cars, just to much of a hassle.

The car looks sexy, it has a very good motor in it, shy of 8hp naturally aspirated, compared to a Cobalt SS/SC (cheaper on insurance). I had a lot more leg and hip room in the Si, and the head room was just a tad bit smaller, however enough though that I fit very comfortable into it.

The seats were something I have never experienced. They were more comfortable than a sofa.

I must say, I had a bad rep. for Honda before looking into them because of the ricer's around here, however I don't think I have seen one Si that I can remember around here.

I just wanted to let ya'll know that a Civic Si is an option for me, and I actually like it the same if not more than a Cobalt. Not to mention the fact that I'm putting rims on it the day I get it.

ummm cobalt ss/sc will save you money on insurance, a base civic or base mazda 3 would have cost me 50-100 dollars more a month (I'm 19 also) than the cobalt, thats why I got the cobalt ss/sc. I thought it would be more expensive for a faster car too, but you have to remember its american and insurance companies like american. Just thought I'd let you know not to jump on the honda bandwagon too soon.

unless you already checked it out, if so, then our insurance companies are very different lol(i have allstate)

Don't kid yourself, the Si is not even in the same ballpark as the SS/SC. I have a stock SS/SC and I've put 8 cars on a Si going ***** out in a few hundred meters. They will run you once, and never again.

at least here the insurance is the same as cold told you,
the civic is one of the most stolen cars(here at least) that make the insurance preaty high so dont fall in that thing of cheaper insurance
as for racing...well i have nothing more say(cold an boostbalt say it all)

if you still get it nice for you, but after you get it plz dont regreat and said how nice was my balt, just leave with your error
lol j/k if you get it enjoy it

i was actually considering the si also before my friend mentioned the cobalt ss/sc to me....A g85 balt with lsd and all the upgrades is way out of league for the si...The si is more a of a chick car and the thing is when you can sit up on the damn dash its not a car to even bargain with...the damn thing is so ugly inside even though there might be more room and the digital reader makes me feel like a ******* idiot and would drive me crazy 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 so on and then back down.......GAY!!!!!!

Its simple call your insurance CO. give them a list of the cars you are considering and get a qoute for the lot of them... But since you are a new driver & only 19, might i suggest used? I quoted an '04 Redline after i got my car, it would have been about same cost to insure as my '06 LS!!! Insurance co. rape you on new cars try looking for something 3-4 years old, it will cost less & might have a low premium

I'm a GM guy through and through so it's not even a good comparison between the SS/SC and the Si, but....I have seen the new Si's and they are kinda sharp. They're not that bad looking, and have some decent potential. There's a guy out my way with the M62 on his Si, and he's running low 13's all day long. Anyways...Just do all the appropriate research as far as comparisons with insurance, vehicle issues, prices and what not before settling in. Good luck man,

There is nothing wrong with a civic for a first car. Just dont rice it out like everone else. its perfect for gas mileage and that little bit of luxury, and still new and stylish. thats plenty of power for a first car.

my buddy has an si, its a nice car, but he wishes it was faster after driving my car and realizing it cost less and that about 600bucks gets you 40hp more in the ss, and it will cost hime about 1400 to see the same gain.....and his insurnce is more than mine by about 60bucks,( hondas get stolen alot around here)hes talking about getting a compteck to keep up with me....i told him i'll just buy a whipple ..lol.
but i do love his seats, and how nice of a ride it is, its deffently built better than the ss/sc.

The 'balt won't be that much (if any at all) more expensive than the Si. And with the balt you get much better looks, and you'll actually have some torque to go with the hp!

But then again I just flat out don't like the new Si's, so of course I'm gonna side with the Cobalt.

And like someone already mentioned, the 2.4SS is the 2nd fastest car under 20k should you consider it too. With my basic bolt ons I've already beaten both the new coupe and sedan Si's.

they are built very well. There's a very good reason the civic is/has been a very popular car. Imports for the most part are better built. The only reason I didn't go import is because I believe in buying American.

Go get the Si, but I guarantee the insurance is not cheap. They are in the top 5 most expensive high volume productions cars to insure. I'll try to find the statistics to back that up. Oh yea, don't forget, the Civic Si is

TORQUELESS

honda civic is prob the most american made car in this country....not kidding either

i have driving one many times, and i would take it over the cobalt
loose some power, but gain alot of other items the cobalt lacks

my cents

You can go ask your insurance agent what the rate will be on any car you want. So go compare the two and for the hell of it ask about a Vette or some other ridiculous car for your age. You can also ask them what makes your rate go down. You'd be surprised what you can do (get good grades, take a driving class, get married, ect.). Just some ideas.

btw, dont give the current crop of civic SIs any credit as far as past history in quality.

Go read some civic forums....there are massive petition threads to honda about the major drop in quality for this generation.

there is just as much, if not more, problematic things with the current SI than there is with the cobalt.

So true ALL my friends who have the coupe and civic are looking to dump them due to problems. if you are looking at the price for an SI at least go look at a GTI or the new specV
