new here have some questions.
Hi name is brett And Im new here and Im from canada.
I currently own a 1990 toyota supra turbo but I'm thinking of selling in spring and buying chevy cobalt SS. Now I have been looking at them and going to the dealership and looking at them. I just have a few questions
1.) im used to turbo's being my last 2 cars both had them and I have never owned a supercharged vechile but from experince Forced induction is the way to goo. Now im curious as to how well theses cars respond to mods and such? also with a turbo u can usually just crank up the boost to make more power with a boost controller, IS there a similar way to do so with a supercharger???
2.) how strong is the stock internals of the 2.0L Ecotec engine??? can it withstand good amount of powers or no??
3.) are theses cars reliable or no????
I just want to buy something new with warranty and something with a good aftermarket and something else to use as a new project or something. Im looking to spend about 20,000-30,000 on a new car so If u have any other good suggestions be sure to throw it out there plz. Im sure I have more questions but I'll post them up as I think of them.

well straight up=if your looking to spend 20-30, go look at STI's or evo's, or any other F/I car i cant think of in that price range.
The stock internals are good up to about 300hp i heard somewhere??correct me if im wrong.
and the aftermarket is just starting, this is a brand new car, and by January the market should be pretty awesome, with lot's of choices. After SEMA in Nov. GM is supposed to release staged upgrades from the factory that can put you at roughly(what were all speculating)...260hp ish range, again-not to sure yet on the numbers.
The ECU on thse cars is locked up pretty tite for now, some people have used some piggybacks, and tried tuning them with some other controllers, its hard for now, until GM releases their kit to unlock our ECU a little bit, but this car definatley has potential
As reliability goes: This car has held up great ive seen people with 20k miles still running strong no problems, but it's brand new, but the ECOTEC, is not brand new, the engine and tranny have been around forever..
anyywaayyy sorry to ramble, just search around on the site a little
Hope you get the right car for you. And happy car shopping

1.) The Cobalt SS is not going to be as fast as your Supra. However, out of all the cars I've owned, the 2.0L Ecotec S/C responds the best to bolt on's. It's amazing how much power you can get with just a simple pulley swap. I don't think you can run a boost controller on a S/C motor but you can do a "Boost bypass mod" search the forums for this. People bolting intakes are getting codes and that's about all that we are aware of.
2.) No one is absolutely positive on the limits of the forged internials of the 2.0L Ecotec supercharged, but GM say's that the rods (which are designed after the old school Pink Rod) are reliable to over 300HP.
3.) I haven't had my car break down, although the sunroof track did break but the exended warrenty fixed it ( I suggest you get this).

thnx for the info guys. And I don't think my supra would be as fast as a cobalt SS as the cobalt runs like 14.4 stock and turbo supra run about 15.0 stock in the quarter mile. Also Evos and SRt-4 would all be nice but there all 4 doors and im not a very big fan or 4 door cars.

Pretty sure they are going to put the 2.0 SC in the solstice when they come out with a performance one. I think someone found that they were going to instead of a 2.4 T
