Before getting HPT, I had never seen or touched any type of tuning software. Once you get an idea of what every thing does it's not to bad. You just take your time, and do alot of reading.

It takes a little bit to get use to it. It isn't as hard as most people think. You should get a wideband before messing with any crucial settings. You just need to be determined and like redfocz said take your time, read and ask lots of questions.

Yea wideband is a must. Another thing is find someone to walk you through a basic tune. You will catch on real easy.

i enjoy mine, i also enjoy the fact i can vary the power output as well. remember, you can only tune the car so much before you hit the wall.

nope, you have to do a full down load of the ecm first. that takes about 4 mins
then have a map ready, or make one. then do a full write which can take upwards of 6 minutes. so about 30 mins of work in the initial work, if you don't have a map built already.

ok so when you do a full download of the ecm onto the hptuner software then your car has no ecm to operate off of?...or is it basically just copying the ecm ?....basically what i am getting at is can i scan my ecm and put it on my laptop to tweak it whenever i want and then put it back on or do i have to scan it,make the adjustments, and then put it back on for the car to operate?

Na it doesnt eat the file off of the pcm, what i mean is you can read the file & your pcm will still have that same file on it meaning your vehicle will run & drive just as it always did. So if you do a read you can take your time looking through the tables before you need to upload anything. When I first started tuning I took 3 weeks of just reading & going through my file before I uploaded a tune

FWIW when I first got into tuning widebands were 2-10X as expensive as they are now so I didn't start with one. I simply didn't touch the fueling tables too much and focused on drivability.
