Newbie Qusetion about cleaning and waxing
Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum and have been doing a lot of reading on here.
Glad to see so many of you guys/gals take pride in keeping your Balts nice and clean!
I got myself a used 06 Cobalt LT just a couple of weeks ago.
I've already waxed it once and aside from some minor chips here and there it's still in very good shape. The other problem is swirls in the paint.
Now I've been reading about this clay that people are using. Would it be okay to use this 'clay' so soon after waxing my balt? I've waxed it a week ago. Would the wax still be too thick to warrent using the clay at this point? Should a wait a while after several more washes to make claying my balt worth it?
Thanks for any advice guys!

Clay would be your best bet. But be careful and constantly check your clay to make sure there is no particles in it because it could scratch your paint. Another way to strip the car of the wax is dish detergent but it may be a little to harsh from what some people say.
Dish detergent will remove the wax and get you back to clear coat putting you in the best position for claybarring. Don't quote me on this but I believe alot of guys use dawn to strip the wax since it is a more mild detergent.
Clay should help with swirls and eliminate most of them.

A clay bar will not help with swirls. Clay bars only remove any old left over wax, contamination etc. etc. and prepares the paint for a good wax and polish
Get yourself a good swirl remover.
I use Meguire's swirl remover 2.0

Pay attention to this part:
Tech Note: Clay bars will not remove scratches, swirls, dull, oxidized paint or restore surface gloss. This is accomplished by polishing the surface after claying. Polishing alone will not remove paint contamination.
