GM messing with me?

i went to get my car serviced...it's a base 2005 cobalt...my ignition control modular keeps fryin in my car...been goin threw one every week for the past 5 weeks..so i took it to a gm dealer to see what the problem was...i think they are messin with my mind....first they told me it was my pcm....then a hour later...they called me back and said...we see u have bosch plat. +4 plugs in ur car...i was like yes....and...he was like well that's ur problem....ur car only takes ac delco plat's and since it's ur plugs that are fryin ur icm...it won't be covered under warranty...and now are tryin to charge me 800 bucks for the repairs they did....is it possible for a spark plug to fry ur ignition control modular...or are they just screwing with me? i can't see how my bosch spark plugs which i bought off a genuine bosch dealer for my specific car....how they could do that...i never even heard of plugs doin that b4. any help would be greatly appriciated..

That's a load of crap... no way a friggin spark plug is messing up your ECM. Talk to the service manager or go to a different dealer.

Tell them they will need to provide documentation as to how exactly the ignition control issue was DIRECTLY caused by the plugs.

And for future reference, it's always ALWAYS best to keep EVERY LITTLE THING on the car factory spec. Because dealers pull this ALL the time.

Contact Bosch and tell them your story. They may send you documentation to defend yourself or they may even make a call to GM headquarters themselves.

That's a total load of crap. Lot's of good suggestions here, though
Contact Bosch
Contact Service Rep for that dealer
Contact GM directly
Your dealer is obviously trying to shaft you on this one. Bosch Platinum 4's DEFINITELY are OEM or better.

they can NOT make you buy a certain brand of parts unless they provide those parts free of charge. know your rights.

What are you driving 2.2 ,2.4 ,the 2.0 doesnt have a ignition control modual the spark is triggered from the pcm.

Question for you did the problem happen after you put those plugs in ?
Or did you fry a Ignition module before that with the ac delco plugs.
Personnally I think you dealer is full of crap and I would switch dealers.

Agreed, when you're having a problem that you are not sure about what is causing it, be sure to put everything back stock in before you take it. I have everything i've taken off and/or switched out on my balt stashed away, lol even my moldings and badges. Honestly though, be sure to throw the ac delcos back in, don't throw them away if they are still good, and u just replaced them for better plugs. Keep that stock intake around to put back on when u take it in. As well as everything else. Even though the dealer gets the parts directly through GM to fix your problem, the warranty also covers their labor hours, which they never actually get paid for , until ways down the road, so they try anything they can to get every dollar out of you. I once had a hyundai dealer try to tell me my muffler voided my warranty, he was a complete moron and i ripped him up the wall and didn't pay a dime for my new tranny on my old accent. Don't fall for their crap.

g'day!

not to be a dick here.....but it is in fact possible....
did you gap the spark plugs? or just rely on how they came out of the box?
technically if they were gapped to wide you could cause the plug to draw to much power from the ignition and blow it.

sorry to bare bad news, but they arent full of BS on this one....it could very well have caused the issue....

Bosch 4+ plugs don't need gapping. They have 4 electrodes all positioned in an upright way. I personally don't like the Bosch 4+ plugs and used it before on my cavalier 2.4 for about 3 weeks then went to NGK Iridium. HUGE difference.
