New SS

Hi, I'm new to the forum and just bought a new 07 cobalt SS (rally yellow). I was wondering if anyone on the forum had any advice for me cause I wanna put some money into my car. I was thinking an intake and an exhaust and maybe some other stuff but I'm not too knowledgable about the brands that make the parts and whats the best so help would be greatly appreciated, thx!

Welcome! There's a whole ton of discussion around to address just what you are talking about. It'll really depend on you and your preferences - so my advise is to read up and make your own educated decision.

So - take a look through the 2.4l section, of which you just posted; and take a look through the supporting vendors section to see what's available. Good luck, and don't be afraid to contribute.

Yay another yellow balt! I would look into the Corsa exhausts. They are a bit more expensive but they offer no interior resonance and the touring model is nice a quiet with a deep throaty purr while the Sport is a little more aggressive. Injen makes a nice intake for the 2.4.

Also I have a TWM short throw shifter for sale if you are interested!

Welcome to the site. There are plenty of threads about these topics if you'll use the search function on the tool bar.

But toanswer to your question, you sound like you're on the right track. Start with an intake, exhaust, manifolds, headers, tune, etc.
So far the consensus is that GM Performance Parts has the best value on their performance exhaust as well as Extruded exhaust manifold. Check out Crate Engine Depot for the cheapest price on that.
As far as intakes go, it's pretty much personal preference. Most people have Injen because they look the best and can be swapped from a CAI to a SRI.
Some use AEM because of the dry air filter being less likely to cause a Check Engine Light.
And K&N has just released the only Intake made SPECIFICALLY for the LE5 Engine, and it's dynoed some amazing gains.
Most of our supporting vendors have these at competitive prices, and occasionally some of them will do specials that might save you a few $

So far most members have been partial to HPTuners for tuning needs, so anybody you can get to do it, or any shop that has it can hook you up.
Good luck and Happy modding!

Ohh - some more good advise.

There is a turbo kit on the market, and some other vendors are also working on other forced induction systems.

If you plan to go forced induction, ever, make sure the parts you buy won't be going in the trash when you do - for instance, if going turbo, then you wouldn't want to buy an intake, headers or any kind of under-hood sway bar, etc.

Hey,

Hope you enjoy your new car. I just purchased my red SS on Monday. This site seems pretty decent on upgrade tips. Lots of opinions, but that is good to hear different views.

As for intakes I would go with the injen cold air, and exhaust I have the corsa sport exhaust which sounds really nice but is a little expensive.

Dude, ive been looking at exhausts lately and ive looked in to the BORLA exhaust for the car. Any thoughts? Cause its about $800 from the factory and ive seen it elsewhere for around $600.

It depends on what you want out of your car. Everyone is going to tell you that "this intake is better" or "this exhaust is best" yadda yadda... you should set up some goals (i.e. 200whp, 250whp, 14.0 sec 1/4...) and then from there you can be helped better.

Very good advice right there. Find out what your looking to get out of your car and then make your purchases based on those goals. You can dump alot of money in these things in a very short time, the more you know what you want to acheive the less money you'll waist buying parts that you won't be happy with. Intake and exhaust is a good start and there is a wide variety of both. Intakes-Injen, aem, gmpp, fujita, k&n. cat backs-2 different gmpp catbacks , 2 different corsa's, megan, ark, local shop, etc. header-Cobalt addiction, GMPP, zzp, clear image, weapon r. ECM tunes also wake these motors up alot: Westers and vector have pre tunned ecm's you can buy and you can also have someone with HP tuners tune the ecm.

lets see id go with an Injen intake probly no more then 290$ Cobalt Addiction header 220$ Cobalt addiction downpipe 290$ Any exhaust you want 2.5 inch is plenty long as its stainless should be no more then 1k as cheap as 400$ and then theres forced induction turbo supercharger whatever you want theres tons of stuff in here just ask.
