The timeslip we've all been waiting for....

Here it is, the guy that claimed he ran a 14.5 in a Redline has come through.

This and the timeslip in the other thread should put some doubt into the 15.3 that some mags have been getting!

yeah i noticed that, sweet, he could probably have done better if he got a 2.1 60' times. and if that lsd comes to play it would be even better.

something else i just thought of....

the RL and the Cobalt SS have different tire compounds. the SS' tires are supposed to be rated Z so i wonder if that would make much of a difference...hrm...

WOW...very nice! With a 2.21 and a 2.36 60", there is def room for improvement. If he could stick a 2.10 60', that time would come down to ~14.3. That's about were he should be with his trap speed anyway.

Settle down tiger... Getting into the 12's with these Cars are going to require some extensive mods.

Going to a bigger blower is a MUST.

if people can get consistant 14.5 easily with or with out the lsd then 13's can be easily achievable.

12's would require some BIG hp, and possibly weight reduction (and an LSD). Although I'm sure people will eventually get there, I'll settle with 13's and better drivability.

i say 13's EASY with no lsd and just a header for mods. take off the stock airbox and i'm even more sure of it (with good driver, i just can't wait until spring (will be 2nd time to track ever when i do go))

ps - the redline has z rated tires too! makes an expensive winter wheel/tire combo

nah, we've got the z rated tires, which is why there is no speed limiter, i believe the RL is limited by drag at around 145

Just get some slicks on the front and it won't spin anyway. Who needs LSD?

Continuing on with the modification convo above, I thought I read somwhere on this site that the stock engine setup in the RL and SS can't be changed cause they are already maxed out. So unless we start tearing out stuff and replacing it with aftermarket, what can we do?

If you spin your tires in a curve with lsd, both tires will be spinning and off the road you will go.

If the PSI-FI kit produces the full potential of its turbo (400whp, estimated) we'll be seeing 11's with slicks. If a turbo Probe, weighing 2700 pounds, possessing 418whp, can run an 11.6 and better...then I'd expect the same from a Cobalt. A first gen Probe with a turbo FE3...405-410whp and a 35 shot of Nitrous ran an 11.25. So, while it'll take an overhaul of many stock systems...either a turbo swap, somehow upgraded S/C..or in PSI-FI's case, twincharging...I know it can and will be done.

that may be true, but without it, you go NOWHERE

it's actually less safe without one that with, if someone that hasn't had it happen before tries to jump out into traffic making a right turn and gives it ANY amount of gas, you get wheelspin, so i reiterate the fact that the car NEEDS one, badly

The key is to bring down wheelspin, obviously two wheels with traction will spin less then one. And if you spin both tires and go off the road, it's your own fault for not having the foresight and skill to drive a car with the power to do that.
