Me vs. 82-92 trans am

I was sitting at a light today with two coworkers, on the way to lunch. An older gen Trans Am pulls up. I look over, he's not paying much attention, so I don't take much interest. Light turns, I hit the gas a little harder than I intended, he must have heard the exhaust. I shift to second, and I see him punch it from the line to catch up. So we're cruisin about 20 and at the same time we both punch it. Dead even, he chirps his tires into third and I'm still only pushin about 5k in 2nd. I redline, shift to third, begin to pull about a fender length...then a fedex truck pulls out in front of us. We both slow down and I stop for the next light, my lane's backed up a lot more than his is. He stops right next to me, he's probably got 8 carlengths in front of him before the next car. Rolls down the window, we smile and nod at each other, and he takes off.

I don't know what kinda engine those things have or anything, from wikipedia it looks like somewhere between 190 and 230 horse depending on the year, assuming he had th v8. I just figured I'd share, since this was my first real attempt at a race with something besides a ricer I was putting in his place.

BTW-my coworkers combined weigh over 450...lol.

Well, I was heavily weighted down. Close to 500 lbs in passenger weight, plus my subs/box/etc. I dunno how I should have held up to be honest. Given more than a city block things could have been much different, we shut down at 60 and i was starting to pull.

Yeah, I (somewhat) raced my uncles '89 GTA Trans Am, with the 305 ci. He was maybe a car length behind me and nailed it, and I did so as well, and I held him off, if not walked a little as soon as the boost gauge pegged out...from like mid 2nd (40mph) to almost the middle of 3rd.
